Engine Coolant

should i follow as per manual and use Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2? also says if you use something else temporarily make sure it's high-quality coolant because "continued use of any non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.". hogwash? or can i use the Prestone that i have lying around?

Although the Honda coolant is (IMHO) way overpriced for something that is already mixed 50/50, I would stay with what Honda says. If a problem should happen with the water pump, radiator, etc. there will be lots of points in your favor to get it fixed for free (if not near free). I know at $20 gal. it's real hard to swallow (sorry Paris Hilton) but it is from a company that's known for reliability. The Honda trans fluid is running $8/qt. where I am is just as bad (I put in a B&M trans cooler).

Water Wetter is good stuff from what I hear. I haven't had had my TL-S long enough to find out how well after I put it in. For $8 though it would sound like a big loss if it were snake oil. I'm sure it's not though.

I don't understand. Can anybody really tell me what's so
special about the "Honda" version of the coolant and
Transmission fluid?

There are very stringent industry specs for these fluids
and my suspicion is that Honda is just trying to make
extra money with overpricing fluids. Even when you buy
the Transmission fluid from them there is no indication
of it's rating anywhere on the container.

as far as the coolant goes? i dont know whats special about it. but the tranny fluid i wouldnt mess with any thing else. i used something different in my last car i used for racing(prelude) and it was a mistake, i fried the tranny pretty quick, i rebuilt it a 2nd time and used honda fluid and it never died. honda just certified (i think it to be) amsoil, might be redline? for use in there trannies. for something so expensive is it reall worth chincing out on something so small? i dont think so

what happens if you just pour in straight antifreeze without mixing it with water? i just found out that my dad topped up with the rest of the bottle of prestone without adding water
not my car of course.
