I cleaned my own. I did the following:

1. Go buy some gunk engine brite (I used the stuff with orange oil) and protectant (I've used both Armor All and Turtle Wax 2001 with good results).
2. Take off your plastic engine covers (clean and armor all them separately).
3. Spray the engine brite as instructed on the can.
4. Wait a few minutes for the cleaner to penetrate.
5. Hose it off and dry the engine the best you can with a towel. If you have a leaf blower - use it (even if you get strange looks from your neighbors )
6. Liberally spray something like armor all all over the engine - avoiding the belts and alternator.
7. Wait at least 1/2 hour for the protectant to soak in (overnight works great if you have the time).
8. Hose it off again and dry.
9. Reinstall the plastic covers.

Your engine will look like new!

BTW - never use high pressure water on the engine. Use a hose with light spray - and only do this on a cold engine.

The TL has plastic engine covers that can be removed with a 10mm wrench and a quarter (to turn the plastic screws).

If you don't have a TL, you might not have a plastic engine cover.

Pop the hood and look. We're talking about the plastic covers that serve no purpose but to cover up engine components and give the engine an "uncomplicated" look.

I doubt a '93 accord would have them.

Nope, no plastic cover on a 93 Accord that I know. Nevertheless, you want your engine bay clean, so do it once a year.
