Engine burning oil?
Engine burning oil?
I change my oil every 5K miles. Checked the level about 4 K after last oil change - was almost a quart low
- about third of an inch below lower hole on the dipstick. No leaks anywhere on the engine, antifreeze is OK, but exhaust pipes have some black sootlike residue on them... so most likely my oil goes out that way...
Anyone else has this problem? I am a little concerned about this at 40K miles on '00 TL-P. I will bring it up during my next visit to the dealer, but I am sure they will say that it is within "manufacturers specs", and it may as well be. Thing is, while I never owned a Honda before, I was under impession they make tight engines. Was I wrong???

depends how your driving is? is is hard driving? was it full at your last oil change? the black soot is fairly normal, just carbon. go have your oil changed and check it occasionally. and let your dealer know when you bring it in.
honda engines are the best!

Check your oil in the same place each time as small inclines can make a difference. Wait 5 min. for the oil to drain down after driving too before checking the level. Use 5W-30 and you might want to try synthetic. Drain it out and put on a new filter and put in 4.6 qts of a good oil. The black stuff is just carbon. Hope this helps.
