Talking End lease or buy?

Help everybody: I have a leased 2003 TLS w/30k on the clock. In my 74 years, I've owned Porsches (2), Corvettes (3), BMWs (2) and an Alfa, as well as assorted Cads, Imperials, etc. However, this Acura is the best car I've ever had. My problem: lease ends soon & I'm conflicted: should I buy it at the residual of about 18k or turn it in?

30k miles? You could probably sell it for more than the residual value if there's only 30k miles on the car.

It depends if your VIN falls within the extended tranny warranty. If it does not then I would end the lease.

Yeah the tranny issue should make you think long and hard about this one..........I own my 03 not much I can do,but you still might have a chance to get away........But then again if you really like the car (like i Do) the risk might be worth taking in keeping the car....

BTW Does anyone even know what percent of the 99-03's did have a issue......So far I've been lucky so has Biimat it would seem

Tryout needed

I love my 02 TLS and probably feel the same way as you. I have 50k with no tranny problems.

If I were you, I would write down your 3 favorite things about your TL. Then go and test drive a new one. If you still feel the same, keep your TL. If you like the new one, go with that.

You are better experienced that most of us in terms of cars and driving. Trust your own impressions because those are the ones you have to live with. Good Luck!

If you look at the responses within the forum, you would think that the tranny problem has affected 50% or more owners, but overall, I'm sure it is no more than 5-10% tops of all TL owners.

I would assume that less than 1% of owners are on these forums.

I believe that Consumer Reports states that less than 2% of TL owners actually have tranny failure. That number is still too high. Unfortunately Consumer Reports has also changed their ratings on the tranny. It now gives our tranny a "poor" rating, which is the worst rating that they have. It has killed the Book Value on our cars.

Precisely what I'm going to pitch at Honda Finance to negotiate the buy-out price on my car. Every cloud has a silver lining.
