embarrassed a lex last night

Last night me and 2 of my friends were coming home late at night. As I came up to a red light I noticed a pretty nice car there, when I got closer I saw it was a Lexus GS300, when I pulled up the guy kept looking over so I figured he wanted to race and when the light turned green I was right, we both took off he got a little a head of me at the start (bad reflex time for me) but I was ahead of him almost instantly and then just kept pulling on him. The best part was he wouldn't give up every time I would let him catch up he would try to race me and loose. Then we caught another light and he started inching up AGAIN (keep in mind by now I have proven to him my car was faster about 3 times) this time though I think he was more interested to see if my car was faster at high speeds, because after I killed him off the line I slowed at like 65-70 he got right up next to me the gunned it again, and I still stayed plenty in front of him, then at like 110 i slowed and we went our separate ways, I don't know how anyone could just not take no for an answer, instead of just loosing a race no big deal, he wound up having 3 people in a car think he was some kind of dorky looser who just couldn't admit his lex couldn't keep up with my TL-S. Also there was no one else in his car and I had just filled the tank.

nice kill!!!

i've raced my brother and friend in there GS400 a couple of times.. and in all instances the TLS can keep up with them so I'd figure we should be able to smoke a GS300

The TLS can keep up for a little while but watch out at higher speeds. I think we can hang till about 100 (still lose but not badly) and then their displacement takes over and the kill us!

I used the term "hang" loosely. There have been some that have hung...unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try myself.

The TLS is fast but not GS4 fast.

Dual personality

From my experience TL-S can keep up with about anything below 100 mph and on the other hand it will lose to most cars (including GS/SC 300) above 100 mph.

I tend to agree but I would assume that the TL would still beat a 300 above 100.

DONOT QOUTE WHAT THE MFG SAYS. FUGITIVE BECAUSE THEIR TIMES ARE A LITTLE SLOW IN MOST CASES ARE CARS HAVE BEEN QUOTED AT 7.2 IN SOME CASES WE KNOW THATS NOT TRUE. IF YOU ARE USING RANGES SAY 7.3-7.8 FOR THE GS300 LIKE YOU USED A RANGE ON THE TLS. I KNOW FOR A FACT THE TLS CANT HANG WITH A GS4, 0- TO NOTHING, I WAS MURDERED BY ONE AT 3 DIFFERENT STOP LIGHTS. WHAT ARE THEIR 0-60'S ABOUT 5.7 OR SO? NOTHING LIKE A GOOD OLD V8 TORQUE MONSTER.

Magazine/Internet Racing means nothing.. out on the street there are waaaay to many variables that can affect perfomance on any car... even from light to light. Lexus.com says 0-60 is 7.8, somewhere else may have it at 7.6 or 8.0. There's just no consistancy to start quoting manufacturers websites.....

If you can't beat a GS300 or at least hang then why do you have a sport luxury car if you can't drive it. True, manufacturer specs are **** but not by much. I had a STOCK 97 T/A that didn't even come close to mag specs.......It surpassed them...14.1 @105 mph so says MT...i ran 13.70's@107 Does that mean i am a better driver than motor trend? NO, MT doesn't hire bums off the street to test drive their cars i'm pretty sure you have to know how to drive....I drive a TLS because i don't want a turd LEXUS. If i was going to spend 50k on a car it wouldn't be a GS4anything. I would buy a Z06 best bang for your buck!! And i would get a lexus "CIVIC"... i mean IS300 for my crash up derby w/ the rednecks... yee haw

don't take any offense i've been racing since 95....just my 2 cents

Driver's abilities

Does not matter that much in an automatic car. At 100 mph you are in the 4th gear at best. The computer will not allow you to shift to 3rd at such speeds. If GS300 catches you of guards you can even be in the 5th (very tall) gear. Now all you can do at this moment is to step on the gas pedal. And yes you will probably keep up with GS300 but will for sure lose to GS400/430. Being a good driver will not help at all.

If I had 50g to spend I would still get the GS430 or 540 just for the luxury and sport of it. Corvettes just don't do it for me (although it will smoke the sh!t outta most anything I would want to buy).

Different strokes for different folks...as is so commonly said!

I think this sounds about right. I've driven my cousin's GS300 a few times and I wasn't impressed at all, especially at high end RPM.

I still like the car though... IMO it's much smoother and better built than TL-S.

I'm gonna let the idiotic/ turd comments pass as obviously, someone(people) need (s) a hug.

Good kill, a TL-S will KILL a GS 300 from 0-80 and the GS will start pulling (Inline-6) at highway speeds but if you have a good lead, you should keep it. GS 300 is a mid 7 sec car 0-60.

As stated, a S-type will keep up (that mean behind) a GS 4 to about 80-90mph and from there the lead widens. But as the GS4 should beat a Type-s, the Type-S should beat a GS 3.

I guess people are just dumb and must be a dorky loser to buy such a "slow" car huh!

Anyone have any of these street races on video (mpeg/avi)? I've been searching the web for "TL-S versus.." videos and can't find anything but Civics and Integras versus everything under the sun. Good stuff...helps you size up the competition.

BTW, had a guy in an ES300 with his wife trying to race me from a stoplight...I could've taken him to school, but had a passenger seat full of fastfood and didn't feel like cleaning up a mess to make this chump eat my dust.

I did however on other occasions, waste an Integra (not Type-R) and a few big-ass trucks with the TL-S. Why do guys in trucks think they can race? Every time it's the same thing and I end up watching them disappear in the rearview...

Hokie D,

I would like to comment on you pic of the gauges in your sig. How come your temp gauge is barely at 0 and you are at 140mph.. This can't be good for a cold engine.

My car will instantly heat to normal (half way) before I even make it down my driveway

Was this PHOTOSHOPPED !!!

Not only that but notice the illuminated dummy lights.

let's see:

battery discharge
oil press
seat belt
brake

Funny thing, Those lights tend to be on while parked in the garage with the key turned to ACC.

Sorry Hokie, you'll have to do better than that!

I took at GS300 with some1 else in the car. We were on the Garden State Parkway doing about 60 when I saw a car coming up quick. When he got near I hit the gas. He passed me, so I caught up and I passed him doing about 100 and I had about a car until 130 and then he let off.
