Electrical Problems w/ '02 TL-S?

Just bought a certified pre-owned '02 TL-Type S w/ 45,000 miles, and I'm already having issues...

I attempted to turn on my headlights last night, and my windshield wipers started when I turned the knob past the parking lights. At the same time, my right turn signal icon on the dash illuminated (and stays lit until I turn off the lights), and my right headlight is out. I thought that perhaps this was a warning that Acura implements to let you know that your headlight is out - but it seems a little much. I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow to find out for sure.

Do these models have a standard electrical problem? I hope I didn't buy a lemon...

Man, that sucks! Welcome to the board by the way. To my knowledge Hondas/Acuras in general do not have too many electrical problems, and I have never heard of what you describe. Since it is a CPO, you shouldn't have any out of pocket costs to have it repaired. The TL/CL does have some other issues you will want to keep an eye on.
1. Tranny
2. Rear view mirror

Hope the dealer can get it all figured out for you, let the modding begin!

Thx, dands99tl. I'll keep you guys updated on what the dealership says. I already had an appt to take it in to get some minor things fixed anyway (backdoor armrests warped around the power window control, VSA light partially illuminates every now and then, side airbag off light comes on at odd times), now there's something else.

I knew going into this car that there were probs w/ the tranny, but friends of mine have the same year and an '01 w/ almost 80-90,000 miles w/ zero issues... so I thought I should go for it. I'm definitely a little skeptical now - knowing that I could have bought a nice, new Honda Accord for the price I paid for this car...

I'm hoping I won't have any issues w/ my rearview mirror in the hot, Phoenix sun.

OK, here's the deal... I'm pissed!!

So I took my car into N. Scottsdale Acura to deal w/ the warranty issues and electrical probs I was having w/ my car... keep in mind, i just bought the car a week ago in Dallas and drove the "pre-owned, certified" car to Phx.

come to find out, the "electrical problem" was caused b/c my car's grounding wire (?) was not properly installed... after the apparent wreck!! Apparently, my bumper and hood and a few hose clasps - along with the grounding wire thing (? - don't have the paperwork or car back yet) were replaced not using the first owner's insurance. therefore, nothing came up on any VIN report about my car. Since these parts aren't the originals, I must pay for anything that goes wrong. I asked the Scottsdale service guy about my dilemna: if his technicians found out so easily that my car was involved ina wreck before, why didn't the Dallas dealership fix the problems before selling it as a certified vehicle. He told me that after all is done w/ my car (should get it back in a couple of days, maybe tomorrow) I can "ask" the other dealership to pay me back for the costs I incurred to correct the overlooked, non-warrantied parts... He says that a reputable dealer would do that.

I might even ask for my money back on this... just a head's up to all of you looking to buy a certified car: even though it won't show up on any reports doesn't mean there aren't problems (even wrecks) associated w/ the car. You can help yourself even further by staying away from Goodson Acura in Irving! I'll let you guys know their response as soon as I can.

Sue Goodson Acura, I would. If the car was certified, they should have known this, hence they are suppose to follow Honda/Acura Motor Co. strict guidelines . Take the car back to if you can and get your money back. I would call Honda/Acura Motor Co and get them involved also. I hate Stealerships. Good Luck!
