EGR Issues

Hey all, I'm having issues with my check engine light coming on. I had the code pulled a little less than a month ago and it gave a code for EGR. The port and passage got cleaned, the TL did fine until last week when the light came back on. Had the code pulled again, which ended up being EGR again. This time I replaced the EGR valve and reset the check engine light. She did well for a day, but the light came back on.

What should I be looking at next?

Code please?
EGR OBDII has a lot of different codes: They can lead to false positive readings (shorts in cables), Vacuum leaks, F* Oxygen Sensors and another bunch of stuff.

When it was cleaned, was the IM taken off? Was the im cover passages cleaned? Was the main EGR passage cleaned? When the top im cover was put on, was the gasket placed on properly. It fits 2 ways, only one is the correct way.

Yeah, as Fsttyms1 said. If the EGR passageways were not properly cleaned or the IM cover's gasket is upside down, the code could come back. Check your work and wiring connection to the EGR valve, then reset the CEL and see what happens.

Thanks for responding guys, I'll recheck all of this stuff. Sorry for the late reply, things have been less than desired lately.

For reference, the code is p0401

P0401 is insufficient EGR flow. It is a common problem with this generation of TL. The EGR passaged get clogged up with hard carbon. I believe it's simply by fault of a poor design.

You can check out the DIY to fix this issue, but there is also a good youtube video on how to do this:

^ For the record is not a fault in design..
Its the stupid norms of LEV to make the car very "Green", It takes a toll in the Intake system at the expense of more maintenance.
Hey at least it makes the planet happy right?

They made the passages bigger in later models so it wont clogg up as fast...
