EGR deletion?
EGR deletion?
I have a buddy that's going to help me with some minor repairs. He's a fellow Acura owner and mostly works with Hondas/Acuras. I told him I wanted to clean the EGR port and TB plate while we were doing the plugs and belts. He told me to look into an EGR delete kit. I did a search but didn't find much (I'm on my phone). Is this an option for my 99 and its single port EGR? Does it offer any benefits?
The EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Here, what is done is: A part of the exhaust is re-routed into the intake manifold to be mixed with the air intake and to be combusted a second time. This makes sure that if there is any unburnt fuel in the exhaust is completely burnt. And hence significantly lowers the emissions. The valve which opens and closes the exhaust gases into the intake manifold is called the EGR valve. The PCV valve, or the positive crank case ventilation valve is also another way to decrease emissions. In most engines there is always a small amount of blow by, or compression leak. The PCV valve divers this leak into the intake manifold to be burnt again.
so, by blocking the EGR off, you would prevent recirculation of exhaust gasses in your manifold.
it's generally meant to be used with an oil separator/oil catch can.
both of these items in place would keep your intake manifold clean as a whistle.
for an N/A engine its not really needed to keep the intake manifold clean; butt, if you're in the camp of "every little thing helps" more power to you!

leave it alone if you are not track racing the TL- protect whats left of the atmosphere!
remember to do all the service on TB- remove and clean IACV on bottom side of TB and the egr passage = thru the entire length of the intake manifold, not just the 1 port

No track racing here. I'll be sure to review the EGR and TB procedures tonight. I'm going to get the tensioner and pulleys for the serpentine belts while I'm at it. I've had a p0420 and p0430 pop up and go away twice. It hasn't turned on for a week or so, but it would probably be a good idea to check the cat while we're at it. I'm also tempted to clean the shift solenoid filter screen as well. It depends how much we can get done before the Buckeyes game. Football is king here. Thanks for everyone's help.
that's why DVR/TiVo were made!
Make a list of desired repairs and look where labor overlaps
put list on windshield and work thru it with a plan
This is how we prepped the race cars each week, nothing forgotten- nothing missed
hmm I wonder where this seal came from????
