ECU Question
ECU Question
What are if there is any benefits of reseting your ECU chip?
What is the correct procudure to do it?
I know just disconnect the battery and wait about 1/2 hour, is there anything else?
I did that once and i noticed my car was shifting better, it has been almost a year now and i notice it shifting funny. Acura inspected the car last week and said the tranny was fine.....the had to reconnect a loose ground wire on the computer for the tranny.
should I reset my ECU chip?
thanks a lot for you help

resetting the ECU certainly can't hurt. generally if you do some kind of horsepower modification to the car it doesn't hurt to reset the ECU.
in essence you're forcing the computer to "re-learn" the power curves for the car quicker. the computer would learn it eventually anyway (such is the case why it takes 4-5 days for you to see the power from headers when you install them), this just speeds it up. also if the computer is obviously screwing up for no reason then this is a way to purge the "bad memory" stored in it.
easiest way to do it is to disconnect your negative battery cable. turn on your headlights for a second and hit the brake pedal. this is just an extra step to ensure that the remaining energy is drained from the system. either way leave it disconnected for about 10-15 minutes and you should be fine. when done just reconnect and let it idle for 10-15 minutes, then drive the piss out of it ;o)
