EBC GreenStuff or RedStuff

Alright so I have a 2003 TL-S. Have 127,xxx miles on the vehicle. I am the third owner and have had the car since May 2009. It is time for breaks to come off and put new rotors and pads

I've decided to go with the EBC Ultimax slotted rotors in the front and keep the OEM rotors in the back. Im also upgrading to SS break lines.

Only one thing....
REDSTUFF OR GREENSTUFF!?!?!

Ive been doing my research for the past 3 months and ever site says something different and conflicting answers.

So i do understand that that RedStuff are "track" pads that are ceramic based and will emit less dust. And the Greenstuff are organic based and emit more dust but are recommended for daily driving.

I live in Sacramento, CA so we have dont have extreme weather conditions. Just rain in the winter and heat in the summer. Never gets colder than 28ish degrees or hotter than 110. I would describe myself as an aggressive driver (2 tickets in the past 3 months :/...im in need of a radar lol) , I do an even amount of city and highway driving. With my more agressive driving than a typical driver would I benefit from RedStuff? they are also a bit cheaper.

Like I said theres lots of conflict information on Green vs Red so id like to hear what you guys got on your TL and your reccomendation. Im looking to place my order today since ive been needing breaks for a couple weeks.

So GREEN OR RED?!

I have greens and love them for noise and dusting is minimal.
Reds as ceramics have more noise (as do most track pads)

I would give  to greenstuff

im running red stuff, they perform great and the hotter they get the harder they grip, minimal dusting. they do make a little noise, but it doesnt bother me.

redstuff is fast street use not track use, if you are aggressive you will benefit from the added performance when they get hot. also red stuff works great in the rain.

dont cheap out on the rear rotors, get ebc red and rotors on the back too, you wont be sorry.

also i can do 6, 60-0 stops in arrow and have no fading, they bite harder each time. very powerful brakes. make sure you follow bed in procedure exactly as directed from EBC!!!

i have the dimpled and sloted rotors and red stuff on all 4 wheels.

x2 on EBC's redstuff pads. It's a little wetter up here in the Portland area than you are in SF, but I'm a pretty aggressived driver like you. I've been running EBC's dimpled/slotted rotors front and rear, with the redstuff pads and Goodridge SS brake lines for about 18 months, and they've been great. Low dust, awesome stopping power in the wet and dry. 100x better than stock. You won't be disappointed with the redstuff pads in any way.

Just read your post again. You found Redstuff pads cheaper than Greenstuff? Everywhere I looked the Redstuff were a few bucks more. Where did you find the lower RS prices?

Do you have the dual piston ( Legend Calipers ) on your ride ? If so, how much of a difference did that make ?

AJUSA

with redstuff it puts me at a higher total and with a coupon code its a bigger discount, ended up like 5 bucks cheaper, nothing major

And thanks guy I really appreciate the info. Im leaning more towards the RedStuff now

I wanna get new pads, I'm gonna go with redstuff...However, I just put new rotors on a few thousand miles ago (auto parts blanks)...

If I sand the pad material off of the rotors would it be okay to use the red stuff with the auto parts blanks?

I didn't wanna start a new thread, so I figured I'd ask here.

^ red stuff has a break in coating that is more abrasive so as long as the rotors are not wapred (check runout with dail) you should be ok. the break in coating will create dust, but it wears off fast. EBC recommends using their rotors with red stuff pads. i am unsure how they will perform on blank rotors. red stuff pads my require slotted rotors but i am not sure on that, dont quote me. still running red stuff pads on regular rotors is overkill since the pads are designed to handled much more heat than those rotors can handle. just bedding in red stuff pads may be too harsh for blank rotors which requires 6+ hard 60-20 brakes in arrow, red stuff pads need to get very hot to bed in correctly. for auto part blanks id go with green stuff, its not worth putting red stuff on blank pads.

I want a more aggressive pad, thats why I am changing them...As for the rotors they are not warped, and I drive pretty hard for greenstuff.

If anything, whats a good rotor for a cheap price that would match well with redstuff or et500?

^ ebc has rotors, and offer 2 different ones to choose from, dashed or dimpled and slotted. racing brake has great rotors as well.

if your into aggressive braking id recommend dimpled and slotted ebc rotors, beware they make a little noise but its not crazy. i am currently running them for a while and they perform beyond my needs.

My Setup with EBC Brakes!

I Havent Used either but the Yellow Stuff + Dimpled/Slotted Rotors from EBC and DANGGG!!! The thing sure Stops!!

This is my Setup

I Painted the Brand New EBC Rotors with High Temp Paint to cover the possible parts where they could get Rusty

New Rotors Vs OEM
FRONT:

REAR:

New Goodridge SS Lines Vs Stock Ones:

Installing:

Rear Rotor + Draining Brake Fluid, Yup i dont have Speed Bleeders

Wheel On:

After 10Miles:

The Results are Incredible 110% Recomended Yellow Stuffs havent Tried the Red or Green but Yellow Stuff Rocks.
My Only Complain is that they Make ALOT of Dust and Screams a Lot during light breaking, But After they get hotter holy! They Stops for Sure... Hope you decide to go with EBC!

^ niceeee set up, yellow stuff is suppose to be superior to red stuff in cold and hot performance.

really nice job on the extra rust proofing paint job, extra thumbs up

my yellow stuff pads are wearing out after only 4000 miles when i took my car in to the dealer a couple months ago they said the pads only had like 50% life left. i didnt really believe them but i can tell somethings up with the pads.

i followed EBC's bed in procedure too. im not sure what i did wrong. i definitely feel reduced brake performance. still no fade, but definitely increased braking distances. obviously distances will increase with wear, but not after 4000 miles. ive never even tracked the car.

oh and they still squeal like a wild boar

i think i may go with racingbrake et300s next time around....

whoaa 03tLsNBP, 4k miles? i have like 6k on my red stuff and they basically have no wear at all, i am expecting to get long life out of my pads. my yellow stuff is just really high performance and goes away fast. red stuff barley dusts so they cant be wearing nearly as much i suppose. maybe you should give red stuff a try.

gahhh the NSX is one of my all time favorite cars

yeah idk whats up with my yellow stuff. maybe i drove too hard. or maybe i just expected too much out of them. who knows. the red stuff was backordered when i bought them so the place sent me yellow stuff instead at no extra charge. so im not too angry about it. maybe i should have waited for the red stuff haha.
