Dyno'd my TL-S
Hey guys,
I just had to make a post for anyone interested. Yesterday I had a chance to Dyno my car to really see how much power it's making to the wheels. First of all, I had this opportunity since one of my best friends had his 97' Twin Turbo Supra modified and tuned at a shop in NJ that deals strictly with turbo'd cars - I must say that his car is an animal. With the upgrades that he had done, he was dyno'd at 387hp to the wheels and 414lb/ft of torque
In any case, the owner let me put my car on the dyno after spending a few hours there waiting for the Supra to be tuned properly. They did a total of 3 runs, once in SS. They also did one pass to find out the top speed in which they hit the speed limiter which I forgot to mention to them was still intact Anyways, they hit a little over 140, but said the engine felt like it had more to go if the limiter was bypassed.
In any case, the car was consistent through the 3 runs - the best run was 223.6hp to the wheel and 187.8lb/ft torque. Engine mods include AEM CAI, Comptech Headers & Axle-back Exhaust. I was running on stock rims with the Conti's on. Below is a link to a few pics of the car on the Dyno and the final graph on pg.2 of the album. There's some random pics on the first page.

Nice! Those are some good numbers with those mods ... Pretty much on target for where you should be, maybe a couple extra horsepower than average even.

I guess the numbers are decent all things considered. They said I might be able to a get a few more HP with a cat-back exhaust and better cat. As of now, I'm not planning on adding on any more engine mods. I'm happy with the way the car runs and with the tranny issue, I'm not sure if I want to drop anymore money into the car. We'll see what happens.
TL260Pwer - THe dash kit is the CF dash kit from Beneviento. The piece around the head unit was custom cut from a CF sheet in order to fit flush.

Some TL-S/CL-S 5ATs have been known to put down around ~190-195whp. About a 25% powertrain to wheels loss.
And there is a "new" automatic tranny that works at the same efficiency as a manual ... In fact it is a manual transmission, but with a computer controlled clutch. F1 racecars use it, its an option on the Toyota MR2, and BMW 3-series (called SMG). Still has some disadvantages over a true manual, but not as many as a normal automatic.

damn 25% loss sucks............................. i mean really if you think about it.. we cant use the powerful 260 hp that the crank offers... to the wheel.... if only huh...

the only thing i dont agree with is the limiter of a little over 140. thats wrong. our cars are supposed to get shut down at 149
