dust boot over after-market shocks?

im currently rolling with koni yellows. during installation i had to cut my front dust cover boot to go over my konis but on the rear i couldnt do anything about it. so i ended up going without a dust boot on the rear. will this cause me any problems in the long run?

thanks for the input!

Thread revival

This was one of the only previous threads I could find on this topic.

Was lookin into the Koni's to replace my oem setup (when the time comes). Has anybody had a bad experience with respect to not having a dust boot? Keep in mind I live in Vancouver...

I have my stock ones on front and rear. I drilled the hole out (if i remember correctly) to fit over the larger shaft that the koni has

You need to have the dust cover, not having it will give the shocks shorter life. scratches to the rod will cause the leak.

I'll keep that in mind when the time comes. Thanks! I wonder if most people have done something like this.

Interesting - curious if most people on the forum here have just ignored this. I haven't seen this topic brought up at all really...

Not a lot have the Konis. They are one of the more expensive shocks. Most spending that money with springs just buy coilovers.

maybe not "scratches", but yeah it can shorten the life though, when the dirt wears away the seals faster

either way shorter life more then likely, not as criticial on a lowered car, then say a lifted truck because basically the car should not be seeing dirt roads and such, but same problem though, just not as severe though

This is such a big pain, too, IMO. This alone will keep me from running Koni's again.

Having said that, what a thread revival! As others have stated, a dust boot isn't a must, but is highly recommended.

it takes all of 2 min to drill 4 holes. Not really a pain. IMO. Especially considering the task of removing springs and shocks from the car.

It took us much longer than that.

Maybe the fact that we were all tired and burned out didn't help.
