Dropping with Springs??

Hello all, i have a Acura TL Type S without the bodykit. I didn't want to get the body kit because I'm not really into them that much and it wasn't worth the extra money. But I've been noticing how high the car is off the ground compared to some other cars.
Anyway, I would like to drop the car, and would like to know what springs are pretty good. I've been looking at Eibach Pro Kit springs but most here seem to like the Comptech springs. I'm not looking for more stiffness or anything, i actually like the ride i have now and really don't need a stiffer ride. But i'm willing to deal with it a little to get my car lowered. I've read through some threads already but just wanted to ask some basic questions to people who have dropped their cars...

1. How much of a drop does your car have? 1"? 1.5"? 2"?

2. What kind of springs do you use?

3. Do you need aftermarket shocks? if so, who makes good ones? (i've looked at Tokico Illuminas)...

4. Do aftermarket shocks and springs cause any problems for other parts of the car?

I don't know, basically, just wanted some input from people who have dropped their cars. I've read through the previous threads, but just wanted more info and repeated info to see if people are still satisfied with their drop and ride and all that.

Thanks

-Rob

I have comptech springs on mine and it rides like stock. Lowers 1.5 in the front and 1.25 in the rear. I have stock shocks and they should last you for a while.

Comptech springs here with tokico illuminas.....it's nice because if you set the tokicos to level 1, it's a stock like ride.....set it to 5 for a day if you want a little more sporty ride. I don't adjust often, but its nice to have the option.

I say H&R Sport Springs

I have the H&R Sport (Stage 2)

It drops the front 1.75 and the rear 1.5. I am also running the stock shocks. My main concern was not affect the stock ride quality and with the H&R's, I havent.

Here is a pic of my car taken by Dom418 from AW at the meet on 08/03/2002.

I hope this helps.

Damn your car looks great!! So your saying that with H&R sport springs you have not sacrificed the ride quality at all? I've heard from other member that the ride was considerably more rough after the H&R install.

Man every where I see it lists the lowering of these springs differently. Your sayin it lowers your car 1.5 front/1.25 back, on this site where they are selling the Comptech springs it says 1.75 front/1.5 rear and other member I've heard say 1.5 front/1.0 rear. I'm really confused here, what is the real drop of these springs?

Also TypeSDragon do you have a side pic of your car with the CT springs on?

The advertised drop of the Comptech's are 1.75/1.5, however, it may be less until the springs settle. Most people, if they measure, should be right around Comptech's specs......

Mr Bo

Thanks for the compliment.

The overall ride quality has not been compromised. For me, the ride is not "rough" at all. Although, the performance and handling characteristics have greatly improved.

Looks pretty much the same compared with the HRs, but maybe the rear is a bit higher.

There's some shots before I put the body kit on.

Springs compared to anything else suspension-wise will affect your ride quality the most. It is a trade off, much better handling and much better looks, for a little bit rougher ride.

I love my comptechs, the only times I notice it is rougher is on a bumpy road, or going over speed bumps.

Traditionally HRs have either a level drop, or the rear sags a little lower(main reason I went w/comptech), and with comptech they traditionally drop the front a little more than the rear, giving the car at standstill a more aggresive stance, and level in acceleration.

I recently drop my ride with the Eibach prokit(2.1, 1.7) and I definately noticed the ride is harsher. I also noticed the passenger side is making a squeeky noise.

Will getting aftermarket shocks help? if so, what brands?
I think the installer did not put my back seats back together properly b/c there are screws on my backseat. How are the back seat held together? I did not see any screw holes?

thx all
