drain plug washer

How important is the drain plug washer ? Do you guyz change it everytime you do an oil change ? My friend gave me a couple of OEM filters and I wanted to know if I have to get myself over to the dealer to pick up the washer. I know it's not expensive. TIA

Yeah, I purchased a couple of dozen of those washers when got filters from A&H. I change the washer on every oil change because it's what the dealership does. It is probably no big deal to have a new one though.

One thing I've noticed is that with a new washer makes the bolt seat consistantly without a torque wrench by feel. I guess I'm just lazy to buy a torque wrench.

kool thanx, guess I'll get myself over to a dealer and pick up a batch. Was also thinking about the leak factor.

Change it every time. My uncle owns a Honda shop and he told me the plugs are notorious for leaking if you dont. Most shops will overtighten to stop the leak but its just a washer.

MTYH: Drain/Crusher Washer is used to stop leaks!

Fact: Drain/Crusher Washer is used so you don't over torque and jack up the bolt thread on the oil pan. Once you mess up the thread, your oil will leak and you will dish out money to buy a new pricy oil pan.

So everytime u get ur oil changed...it's recommended to replace the washer. When torqued, you don't have to worry about over torquing. The washer is suppose to be crushed/compressed. After it's been crushed/compressed...it has to be replace the next time

one smart move is to get those washer in honda dealership instead of acura bcoz some acura dealership charge as high as $0.70 vs honda $0.25.
