Drain and fill tranny fluid
I would like to drain and fill my tranny on my 2002 TL-P as recommended. Most people in this forum said to do that 3 times. My question is how many quarts of tranny fluid do I have to put in because there are some fluid still in the T-converter when you drain it ?
Thanks

Once is usually all you need unless its the first fluid change or there's a shudder problem, which are the only times I would do the triple drain/fill. Even when doing the triple drain/fill, wait at least a few hundred miles in between each one to allow the fluid to do some cleaning.

So to make it easy, measure out 1 quart at a time when you drain it. And do that 3 times.

the manual says it varies from 3 -3.4 or something like that. The most ive ever gotten out was 3.2

when I drain the tranny I ALWAYS measure the amount that comes out. Then refill with the EXACT same amount and check the level. That way there is no ? as to whether it was 3 or 3.7 qts. Isn't this simple and intelligent logical reasoning versus the debate here? DA

Check the level after the drain ....Why don't you guys do it this way
Make sur it's not overfill .. very important to the transmi to have the
right amount of fluid ( not under not over filling )

Well if its at the right level before and you get 3.5 quarts out, wouldnt it stand to reason that 3.5 would be the right amount to put in??? Plus who said they didnt check it afterwards any way???
mesuring how much fluid that come out It's a lost of time .
You know that only 3.2 to 3.5 quarts that comes out from a drain so fill 3 quarts
and check the level and add more if to low .
Anyway I have a bad experience overfilling the A/T fluid by my stealership ..the
transmi shifts very slow ... then later on I have to remove the excess fluid and
the transmi shifts smoothly .That why it's important to have the level in between
the min & max.

Why are you measuring what came out? What if it was overfilled to begin with?
Fluid capacities do not vary from transmission to transmission. The ability of a person to read the fluid level correctly is what will vary. Did you do it cold? With the engine on? If so - you're wrong.
The refill capacity is right around 3 quarts- period. If you drained 3.7 qts, your tranny was overfilled before you started this whole process.
