Don't fix what's not broken?

I've hit 214K (miles) and still climbing ('00 TL). I expect to keep the car for at least another year then replace it possibly with a new TL-SHAWD .

I have never replaced the following components (if it's not in the list, assume I've replaced it):
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]
That said, the car feels pretty good. I have a few "clacks" from the front end going over bumps that I can hear with the windows down, but nothing that I can feel. The struts don't leak and the car doesn't seem to bounce.

I know I can get a pair of 4500K Xenons on the cheap to replace my aged pair and I should notice an output difference; I probably will.
How about the Oxy sensors and Struts? Worth doing or only worth doing if something goes bad?

I'm curious to get your input on the list; basically, have I just become used to bad handling/performance over the last 11+ years...

Thanks!

I'm rocking original struts and 02 sensors as well. Nothing wrong with that. If your fuel economy is fine, I wouldn't worry about the 02 sensors. No harm in changing them after this long, but mine seem to work fine. A little seafoam will keep them in shape as well.

As for the rest of the suspension, I also have had zero problems. It almost worries me that after 180k, I've had to replace nothing in the suspension. I'll probably just replace things as they break now.

pretty sure you would notice a large improvement if you replaced the struts, I replaced my struts and springs a while ago. the other stuff not a big deal unless it does break or you throw a code because of the sensor. I got a pair of 5k bulbs off of this site and the color was much better vs stock but the bulbs didnt work good at all so I put the stock ones back on and they are still working.

I am at 181k miles on my '99 and have only had to replace the starter - of course it was Friday after work and it was about 100 degrees outside, my cell phone was dead and the office was already locked so that was a fun Friday! I still have the original brake fluid even...

I am in the same boat as you. everything works 100% except the transmission needs some attention. I am going to clean out the shift solenoid screens to hopefully buy some time. trying to decide if it would be worth spending $3000 give or take and keep the car for a few more years

ou- please flush your brake fluid TODAY!!!
every 2 years is the suggested, more often (yearly) if lots of moisture in the air, or you drive the car hard

special bleed/flush order on the TL is: driver front then clockwise around the car
LF RF RR LR
its due to ABS plumbing

we dont have plain xenon bulbs- they are HID = special bulbs
www.hidextra.com has good products at low price and they support azine!

have an alignment shop ck the ball joints- tie rods etc.
that noise is coming from something!!

a seafoam treatment= vac port and gas tank, or twice thru gas tank 1 can @half tank
if you dont like to do vac port method--
and new plugs if more than 70kmiles on them

New front O2 sensor never hurt, it may be 1mpg improvement but that adds up fast!

Just because the car doesnt bounce up and down doesnt mean the shocks arent bad. Typically they wear out gradually and you never notice when they are worn. Its not uncommon for shocks to start to wear at around 50k. I would look into a new set. Have someone that knows what they are looking for inspect and see if balljoints are worn, or starting to get worn. Its hard for most to tell unless they really know what they are looking for. Its dangerous to be driving on a worn balljoint.

as I mentioned, an alignment shop is a good place to get everything ckd-
they can have the car sitting flat-weighted, while on the lift to get under it

thats needed to ck some of the parts

kidah gabru! you can slighly improve mileage by changing o2 sensor but hey why wasting money if your are already getting good gas mileage and no check engine light

nothing says you cant replace a front O2 sensor now, they dont caost that much for Denso, the OE-- plug and play brand

it can work poorly for a long time before actual CEL and failure
that 1-3 mpg adds up fast at 4 bucks a gal
