does it harm anything to bounce off the rev limiter?

I have had my TL-S for a couple of weeks and am not 100% used to the SS yet. On my 99 300M, the Autostick shifted itself at the redline. When I got the TL-S I read the manual that SS would only shift by itself from 1 to 2. But during the few times that I drove with SS on, I could sware that it was shifting by itself in any gear.

Today however, I was accelerating from a red light on a highway (such a highway, with traffic lights, 65 mph speed limit), and forgot that the car was in SS mode. So I was doing pretty well until the car started bucking like crazy. After reading the transmission failure stories on this board, I thought that mine was going south. I threw it into normal D5 and bucking stopped. I did not have a chance to look at the tachometer, so I don't know if I was redlining. I don't remember the engine screaming though.
Anyway, I guess I somehow hit the rev limiter.

Is there any chance that I hurt something in the engine or transmission by a brief encounter with rev limiter like this?

Thanks

NO! The "bucking" sensation that you mentioned is just the engine cutting off fuel.

BTW, just don't make a habit of doing it.

engine defense

Yeah, I realize that the engine cutting off fuel is a way to protect the engine from overrevving.

But on the other hand
1. the bucking probably puts some strain on the tranny (just like like braking with the engine by downshifting the tranny)
2. fuel misture changes

But anyway, thank for response. I will try not to do it again.
