Unhappy Does anyone know how to remove the stripe on the side panel?

I have a black 2000 3.2TL with navigation. There is a thin silver stripe on my car that runs along the side panel. Does anyone know how to remove that stripe?

Is it painted on?

I don't think that it's painted on, I think it's a decal/sticker that is glued on.

Take a hair dryer to heat up the area and then peel it off.

If that doesn't work, try Goo Gone.

Make sure to clean and wax the area really well after you're done.

Only problem is you might find a slight color difference between the paint under the stripe and the rest of the panel. Nothing you can do about that though.

Be careful with goo-gone...I've heard from some people it strips the clearcoat.

Whatever you do make sure you wax it up nice afterwards

I think those are body stipes that Hondas pay to have them painted on... I saw them doing it the other day and inquired about them at my Acura Dealer, and they said that some customer preferred to have those stripes, that's why they have them painted on... ... I know I wouldn't prefer it tho...

I just peeled my off as I was washing my car and it is the hardest thing I have ever done to my car. IT took forever because the strip keeps breaking. I used goo gone to take the rest of the glue off. And does it really hurt the clearcoat casue i used a crap load of that stuff. My car looked plaine for couple of days but I got use to it.

think again before doing it. If your car is older than a year, it usually leaves a mark after you remove the stripe. It happened to me before. It's worse on darker color because of the contrast. The area covered by the stripe exposed to sun light less than the area surrround it, imagine a hot girl sunbathing for a year with bikini on. Got the idea.

Use a heat gun or hair dryer, they come off much easier...

At Miami Acura I was looking at the sticker in the window of a TL I think. They had under Accessories: Pin Stripe - 200.00 dollars. I was like damn 200 bucks for a sticker. Oh well.

THanx for the help. I removed the stripe today using a hair dryer and a plastic blade I got from a guy I know at a tint shop. I took the extra glue off with some Goof Off then I washed and waxed it so the car looks like new. I also put 20% mirror tint on it.

NEXT TIME for anyone trying to peel it off, use WD-40 instead. It's greasy and will not harm your clearcoat. After Goo Gone be sure to clean, polish and wax the area.

YES I use a hairdryer to melt the doublesided tape and a dental floss between the trunk and the emblem. There are 2 holes that attaches the emblem to the trunk.

How long do you hold the hair dryer on? I'm really worried about damaging the paint. And what did you do about the 2 little holes where the "A" used to be?

Some TL's have a pin stripe on the side. Its an option you can get. Nothing big.

You won't melt the paint. the paint was bake at 180F in the assembly process so your hair dryer will not melt any paint Keep the hair dryer on the emblem till you can 'rotate' or squish the emblem. then use dental floss to separate the emblem from the trunk. I clip out the circle and just left the A. I spray painted the A and mounted it back to cover the hole.
