Does anyone have tranny problems on 99' model TL?
Last week, when i was at the red light. Hit the pedal then the car move, but it shudder for like 2-3 sec after the 1st gear. I don't know if that is the sign of tranny problem. But it's been running normal since then. But recently every morning when the car was cold, ater i start the car and shift it to reverse, it just feel really hard like something stuck on the shifter when i try to move it back from Park to reverse or neutral. But after driving it for a while . When i stop and drive the shifter feel normal and a lot lighter when i change from Park to Reverse or Drive. Does that happen because the transmission is cold or some signs of problems. I have 93k on mine and the tranny warranty almost run out til Feb. I wonder if anyone in here that ever have any problem with the 99' model. And the problem because of neglect or just the tranny itself because I take good care of my tranny.Have dealer change the Trans Oil fluid every 30k or so. And one more thing, how do you check the transmission fluid level, after you been driving or after the car sit overnite?

shuttering between gears is usually a sign of Clutches slipping. Shifter may just need lubricated. If it's cold out, it will be harder to shift before warming up. If it slips going into 2nd gear=TAKE IT TO THE GARAGE and get a new tranny. It won't get any better! BEEN THERE DONE THAT in my old Prelude.

so it mean i should bring it to my dealer to have it checked? The only thing is it running normal now. Don't know if the dealer will send it back to me anyways after they test drive it. Wonder how they test the transmission, test drive or doing any other test to it. If i'm not mistaking, i read some posts in here the shutter maybe from the computer that control the car.I already order some Honda ATF Z1 fluid to change but not sure to let my dealer take a look at it.

first of all, there are people that have had their tranny go bad on the '99 TL...but what you are describing really doesnt sound like the tranny. If you start to feel real rough shifts or delays into 2nd gear, then you may have a problem. You may have the dealer check it out because the warranty is about out. I have '96k miles on my original tranny, and it isnt the smoothest when it is cold, but I have never had a problem while driving it.

my 99 failed at around 80k. Replaced under warranty. I recently traded it in (last week ON AN 02 s) because I don't trust the trannies. The dealer has flip-flopped several times as to which year cars are experiencing the problems. I think they all have to differing degrees. When I discussed trading my car, the service rep said the later models had more tranny probs. When I spoke to him about my new car, whose tranny failed on day 1 (warranty good idea, eh ), he said 99-01 were the more problematic trannies. Sounds like they just don't want to say it. The trannies all suck...

The 5 speeds fail more often than the 4 speeds, but the 4 speed isnt immune from problems at all.

About six months or so before my transmission began slipping between the gears, I would experience the hard shift from Park to Reverse when it was cold. After it heats up you could shift between the two gears without any "stickiness".
