do you wax your plastic painted bumpers?
Question: do you guys put wax on the plastic painted bumpers? In the past, I've had bad experience waxing those parts. Suffice to say, after enough sun, the plastic parts were the exact ones that started fading. I was considering vinylex since it mentioned something about plastic, but then it says nothing about paint. then, sometimes you look on the back of the bottle of wax and it says.. not for plastic, rubber, etc. thanks. .I was on that auto-utopia carcare site that people recommend but I didn't find anything about it. So, I'm curious what you guys put on the front and back bumpers and why do you think its safe. thanks.
I've always waxed those parts on cars without problem. Although it is plastic underneath (or some related polymer), remember that it's plain old paint on the surface.
I use carnauba wax from Mothers - kind of a middle-of-the-road wax.
When the car was still pretty new, I did put a coat of poly seralant on all the paint to protect it. I used Prolong, which I've found to work pretty well over the years. It's about twenty bucks, and will give you a warranty on your paint that's about equal to the one Acura will tyry to sell you for hundreds of dollars when you buy the car.

miwa (sounds a bit Japanese-y?)
Yes, you should wax the whole body including the bumper. Afterall, it is painted with the same paint and clearcoated. So you SHOULD wax the bumper as well.

Why wouldn't you wax your bumpers? They have the same paint as the rest of the car.. It doesn't matter what the body panels are made of...look at the Corvette......

slvrtl: yea.. miwa is japanese. I jacked the nick from this character in an anime called "marmalade boy"
shoofin: I had a bad experience in the past but since everyone is doing it with decent success, I'll dive in and do it too
and thanks to the rest of u guys for "easing my fears" I'm sure u know how it is when u dont wanna do nothin wrong to your beloved TL
BTW, I use Meguiars too..
Wash the car, then I clean the paint(with a paint cleaner) and clearcoat from any dirt or debris baked on the body, wipe it off, rinse the car, dry it..The I apply polish, the wipe off, then rinse car again, dry, then I apply wax, wipe off, then rinse with cold cold cold water to bond the wax to the paint..then I dry again.... supposedly it protects the paint better that way(enables the wax to freeze, or bond to the paint), as my friend who works in a body shop told me about that.. It's more effective in the colder weather, before snow. I did it and the snow did not stick to my car(thats what it's supposed to prevent from happening) for a long while after the snowfall, but eventually started sticking.. my car had a lot less snow on it than my mom's car(but we're talking about 12" snowfall), which that technique was not done... Bear in mind, everyone has their own ways of cleaning and protecting their cars..this is mine..
