Do you think Acura will come out with a 2 door sports car to compete with the G35?
#2
probably not.. that's not their market. They're going after BMW 3 series, 5 series, Lexus GS, etc.
The TL competes against the G35, so they have that covered. As for the 350z... they'll probably let the Honda S2000 go against that.. which it will when the 350z cabrio comes out.....

If you mean RWD sports coupe no. They already have the CL that supposedly competes with the G35C.
WRT the Nissan Z, as others have said, the S2000 is it. Although it should have been badged an Acura IMO.

How hard would it have been to stretch the s2000 chassis a little .. widen it a little .. drop the J32A2 Type S engine in it .. mate it w/ a toned down version of the NSX tranny .. add a nice rear-diff.. and then drape it in Acura sheet metal???
That car .. w/ VTEC .. would be one of the coolest cars around .. yet Acura insists that they don't need to dabble in the RWD market .. go figure

I mean, when you really look at the 90's... Toyota's got Supra, Mazda's got RX-7, Nissan's got 300ZX, Honda/Acura has... nothing... It's not a traditionaly thing I guess. If they didn't make a car to compete back then, they won't have one soon...

Acura / Honda has never taken the RWD performance market seriously. I mean, the S2000 and the NSX are great cars, but they are clearly niche vehicles and quite expensive for their 4 and 6 cylinder engines, respectively. I seriously doubt either Honda or Acura will mass produce a RWD vehicle, let alone a sporty one. I mean, look at the RL. If any Acura needs to be RWD to compete (or even be relevant), it is the RL. Yet the 2005 RL is pretty confirmed to be FWD or AWD, not RWD. So, if that is their strategy, why would they make a $35K RWD coupe? I just don't see it happening.

latest rumors on RL is AWD which would be just right....
2nd s2000 is RWD and a very serious competitor in the performance drop top category, so much to the extent that it sells for at least MSRP
3rd, the CL is dead so they have no large or even medium coupe under 90K
4th NSX is RWD and even though it's pricey, it's freakin sweet and journalists love it like the s2000
5th, there is no acura convertible, this is going to change, every other luxury marquee has a convertible in the entry level model...

for the most part h/a is all about the low emissions bs. the tl will compete with the g35 sedan and the cl will be gone soon. i think acura will always just compete with the luxury sport market, they will never set the standard. as for the tl it's still ur best buy comparing to the audi or bmy cause once u add a few options u can easily get their price up to the 40k area

Huh?"
I mean "competes with" for the same buyer not compete's with on the track or in the slalom.
The fact is, when joe mid life crisis goes looking for a two door coupe, he probably looks at:
CLk430
CLS
G35C
M3
etc. etc.
All are two door, luxury, sport coupes. But I guess that's where the similarities end
You have to remember that true enthusiasts are not the majority of buyers.
For every one of us with Tien coilovers and a Comptech Icebox on a CL Type S, there's 10 35-45 year old men on the stock SUV suspension and crappy OEM tires driving to the golf course

One other response... Honda has already shown the S2200 coupe (not roadster) with a 250HP 2.2L four cylinder engine intended to go head-to-head with the 350Z and RX8. It's not inconceivable that Acura might re-brand that car, but I'd have expected that for the S2000 by now as well, and that hasn't materialized yet...

I heard someone on here talking about a GSX that would be a coupe to fight with the G35? Maybe it's just rumor.
My lease ends on my TLS in 2005 and I'm hoping something badass will come out in the $30-$40k range that is a coupe. Hoping an Acura. Or else I'm gonna have to get a G35/350z/s2000

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
But wait....
didn't the prelude compete in the 350Z range? I know they don't make it anymore, but someone said no Honda/Acura cars competed in that range. Unless the prelude was more of a 2 door passenger car than sports car.

Someone mentioned that AutoMag compared the 350Z roadster, Z4, Boxster, and S2K. I believe the S2K had the quickest 0-60 time. I'm not sure if they said it also outperformed the other cars in terms of handling or not, but the authors chose the Porsche above the rest.

S2000 is no match for the 350Z!!
lets see... the s2000 carries close to the 50:50 weight distribution unlike the Z , also the Z is about 400lbs heavier than the Z. The speeds of both cars are comparable and the s2000 has been known to be one of the best (if not THE best) handling car in that class. Now, if you then throw what the S2200 will do to the competition, I don't even know why people will even have doubt about the s2k (or s2200)
also, my preference for the s2k is not based on my having a honda currently (well our TL is a honda), its based on the car's capabilities and countless reviews regarding the car. There are always downsides to the car but as far as performance goes, the s2000 is a great car
