Question Do you take good care of your leased TL?

Since leased car owners don't plan to keep the car long and don't own the car, I would assume that those owners may not take good care of their TL. I may be wrong...

WRONG!

I take care of it just the same.. I have all my maintenance records for all my cars and this on is no different. I treat it like I plan on having it forever. To me Lease/Buy it doesn't matter, the bottom line is I am driving it, and I want it to be around as well as looking good..

I agree with dagg. Leasing is really just a form of payment. It's still my car (just for a defined duration) and I have to live with it everyday. My leased cars are hand washed, detailed regularly, and dealer serviced exactly the same way I'd treat an owned car. I don't do it for Honda Finance, I do it because I like cars and take pride in what I'm driving. It's also a heck of a lot easier to write the check every month for a car that's in great shape that I enjoy driving.

I am the same as these guys. I lease my '99, and I am a fanatic about keeping it clean, parking/driving carefully, and I even add mods to it. I like to have it look good. Besides, if I was buying it, I would have no money for mods with the higher monthly payment, and I would trade it in in 3 years anyway.

I lease every car with the intention of buying it at the end, so I take damn good care of them. There no better person to buy a used car from than yourself :-) For some cars, leasing then buying actually saves you money over straight financing!

I would agree with the previous posts. At trade-in time, all that matters is the condition of the car. The better condition, the more it's worth. Lease doesn't matter. BTW, one possibly could sell their vehicle for more than the residual value and pocket the difference. As far as mods go, most (like spoilers, body kits, dash kits, and tint) are not a problem. But I would check with the lease writer just to be sure.

I know exactlty what you're talking about....But if I leased my car(I didn't) I would take care of it as if I bought it outright... It's all in the image.....

If you think about it, you should take even BETTER care of your leased car since you can get charged for any kind of damages at the end of the lease.

Isn't the manf. warranty covered even if you didn't do the special maint? (besides oil change)

You are not required to any of the special maint, hell you aren't even required to change the oil, all they want you to do is turn in a car in good condition, or the residual value. Your choice.. So if you never change the oil, chances are the car isn't going to be in good condition..

Thanks for the replies. I am thinking about replacing my aging '89 Accord soon. I like TL, but I am not sure whether I should buy a new one or a used one. (I am not rich and need to buy a house within one or two years.) My logical side of my brain tells me to get a nice used one, but most of the nice used cars I checked are leased cars. I did find a used 2000 3.2TL w/navi with ~31,000 miles for sale by owner at $23000. It seems to be a good deal...

Just make sure the owner feels the same way we do about our lease cars, not everyone does..

Thumbs up

I am leasing my car... and for this reason I am not planning to put even a penny into the car if it isn't nessesary... I will change the oil whenever required, every 7500 miles, but that's about it... at the rate I'm driving it right now I'd only have about 25-30K miles at the end of the lease... meaning I won't care about tires, breaks and all the other wearable parts...
All I have to worry about is the scratches since they can make me paint the car if it is too excesive...
