Do I need a new battery?
Do I need a new battery?
My battery does not seem to hold power ever since thieves broke into my car and jacked my stereo, I dunno if it's a coincidence or what.
Anyway, I got a jump from my dad a couple days ago and it started just fine. Last night i went to go get some stuff from the store and it struggled to start but eventually started. Same thing happened as I was leaving the store. Now today when I go to start it it'll barely crank and there is a continuous clicking noise in the engine bay. I charged the battery with my portable charger and it started up just like normal. It seems normal when I open the door to enter the car, but when I put the key in and turn to the II position, the lights go dim and sometimes the dash won't light up, meaning the temp, mileage, etc wont light up and the gas gauge sometimes stays down. I still have the Acura battery in there, I don't think it has ever been changed.

Well if it's the original Acura battery and assuming it's never been changed, I would say your battery is toast. It's at least 6 years old and that's OLD for a battery, though I've seen older still going. Get it tested for free at almost any auto parts store. They should be able to confirm that it's done and needs to be replaced.
OK so I got it checked and its gone. It's putting out about 8 as compared to 12. So on the battery it says I have a 100 month limited warranty. Does anyone know if the battery will be covered? 100 months is a little over 8 years and the car is 6 years old, 7 years max if it was produced in 02.
you get hosed on the warranty battery- even on replacement brands- all the same story
100 month PRO RATED warranty is what you have
meaning every month after 12 reduces the covered amount
Example 50 months- half price covered by acura
90 months 10 percent acura 90 percent you
Most people go with an aftermarket brand battery, figuring acura is not using the very best thing made--
If you are going to pay,,, may as well get whatever you want
Also retest the system after battery install to be sure the alternator is ok
With a bad battery not holding charge- the car has been running off the alternantor- and contrary to popular myth- the car runs off the battery.. and the alternator recharges it constantly as its being used
When one or the other isnt working- the other takes on way more load than it was designed for
NOTE Jump starting a TL and driving it to recharge a dead battery is really hard on the alternator
If possible- use a machine battery charger to get it partial charged- then use the car to charge the rest of the way
New batteries are not full of electricity when you get them, takes 30-45 minutes freeway cruise with minimal load- no lights or ac, so all the alt power is going to recharge the battery

possibly a couple dead cells in the battery if its only holding 8v
each cell holds 2v and some change each.
once your car has started, your battery is doing nothing but filtering out any left over ac current left over from the alternator and its rectifier bridge while it is being charged. and of course every time it dies it loses a bit of capacity. the alternator produces your 14.4 so makes sure this holds true with your vehicle because if the alternator is not producing what it should, your battery could take the hit for it by not being charged when running.
be sure to clean the terminals very well with the new battery. and like rajca mentioned with the parasitic draw. if you have a meter now is the time to test that theory by testing for current draw. its too much to explain but very easy to do. just google it or pm me.
