Do I need an Igniter or a Socket?

Hey guys, so my passenger side headlight blew out, and when I went to take it out, the bottom part of the bulb that goes into the socket was a little bit melted.
So after I finally took it out, the actual socket where the bulb goes into is also melted inside.
So I've done a little research and I'm a little bit confused.
I came across this diagram:

From the looks of it, I need part #10, but thats the HID Igniter and costs around ~ $170.
Isn't it just possible to replace the socket itself, or do I need a new Igniter?
As of right now, I have no bulb in the passenger side headlight, so can I still turn on my lights at night without anything burning out?

ok, so I did some more research and I definitly need a new HID Igniter. I called the a couple of dealers and one said $230 and the other said $237.
So the dealer is deifinitly out of the question, and my only option is to get the part online.
so could any of you guys recommend a good online store where I could get the part for cheap?

I would try blend the contact with sand paper (or a little needle file) to smooth the surface so that there is no chance for spark. check the surrounding seals as the moisture may have got to it in the first place.
If you have a junk yard nearby I would call them first for year 1996 and on. I will take the old part for compariosn before I go there for the part.
for new part try to search "Acura OEM parts"
Good luck.

I'm not really mechanically inclined as you are to attempt something like that. After all, there's like 30,000 volts or watts running through this thing.
Also, the best price I've gotten is $170 shipped from an acura dealer in Arizona.
Anybody know any other place where I could get it cheaper?

To check the part number, call two dealers, and ask them what the part number of their ignitors are to "confirm they have the right one". Then you'll have your part number.
Check ebay for ignitors. There are a few new and used ones - going for a min of about 40. Otherwise, check junkyards.

I just check the part number with a few dealers, and the correct part number for my 02 TL-S is: 33129-S0K-A01
anybody know what the difference is between the igniter in the pic and 33129-S0K-A01?

I had the same problem...but my ballash part(7) diagram was burned.take your other Ignitor with light out and put in the side that is out. to see if its your ignitor or ballast. if your light truns on then its your ignitor, if it doesnt then it might be your ballast.....ebay is your best bet....

good point you got there, but the inside of my igniter is actually melted so thats why my initial response was that the igniter was the problem.
but I'll see if I could switch out the igniters to test out the ballast
btw, do you know if I need to take the bumper off to disconnect the igniter?

Just to confirm, the Igniter in the picture above is the correct part you need. I just went through the exact same problem as you. One side was out, and just when I was fixing it, the other side went out too. It turned out, that moisture got inside, ever since my front end was in an accident.
