Do any of you have the O.E. carbon fiber hood installed?

Anyone here with that hood?

How do you think it looks?

I think it looks good, but I went to their site http://www.oetuning.com/oe-store.asp...mnum=102T5202S

And it states "JDM Spec hoods *some required JDM conversion for USDM car" I'd give them a call to before you buy it to make sure their is not too much modification in order to fit the our cars.

Note this is the cheaper of the two carbon fiber hoods too. On the auction the guy says it retails for "well over" $899, but on the OE Tuning website it says the price is $625.00 ... The more expensive one which weighs less (12.2 lbs for the better one versus 12.9 lbs for this one), is $755 on their website.

Wow. A carbon fiber hood for your TL-S? You sure you wanna do that?

I dunno...IMO, I'd save that for your WRX or RSX or something like that...

It will probably look sharp on a black TL S, but on any other color it will give the "Rice-boy" look that so many love to :flamer:

yes, if you are drag racer and only see straight line performance as the only way to rate a car's performance, c/f hood is quite a Rice Boy Statement.

but if you like to take cars to turns and exploring some lateral acceleration, a c/f hood is almost the best mod to a FF (take more weight out from the front... thus more neutral feeling)

I got a lot of compliments for the wave patten under sun... and that even from some soccer mom's ( even some old lady ) mouth... so it's not a rice boy thing at all...
(Well none of the compliments really means anything to me, but I just don't understand why that's appealing to older ladies, they all saying that reflection is gorgeous.... very weird...)

So, um, typeR: How long did it take you to figure that out?
What if I constantly drive around with my golf clubs in the trunk to add weight there? Please keep in mind that my swing speed is so slow that I have steel shafts on all of my clubs--even my driver, and that I have 14 clubs in my bag as well as two dozen balls (I miss a lot of fairways)...
Your calculations are much appreciated.

i like the CF hood...and i don't think it's ricey at all. i'm pretty sure if ur car looks ricey to begin with then there's nothing much you can do about looking ricey.

It's how you use it. cars with lotta ricey mods gonna make the hood look ricey.

well, i got one...that's my car!!! it fits pretty well for the most part, but the corner near the hinges are not flush to the fender so they are working on that problem. mine has a tinted clearcoat. but i do agree that if your car did not already look nice then you 'll get the crap about it being "ricey"...you might get it anyways too but who cares! i don't care what others say as long as i like it!

StanMan, I do like the look of your car, but honestly can't tell from your photo...I would like to see another pic...I still think the hood with silver would be too much for me...And I hate the term "rice" or "ricey"...
Hey, VTECH: Did you notice any gains of feel from your pulley install? Do you have a crank pulley too? Did you tune your v-afc?

My previous car...accord...I had a CF hood on it. Black on white didn't look good so I had my CF hood painted. It looked a lot better.

Hey StanMan, like the hood. I heard the cf hood is alot lighter than the oem, does this cause any difficulty when shutting it?

it's roughly 13 or so lbs. well, you can't drop it to lock the latch. you will have to lower by hand and then press lock it. also no more pneumatic lifts. otherwise, no problems.

hoods didn't sell well during a GB so the covers are in question. they require a lot of labor because of the curves and details so they could be as much as the hoods. they are not sure what to do.

Stanman: What did you use to prop your hood up like the pic below? Is it pivoting on the hinge?

cf is never colored (other than that black and silver look) so the blue color comes from a tinted clearcoat. i believe kevlar fabric can have colored strands.

that was ghetto rigged for the show to highlight the hood. i had these very long rods holding up the back end but it rocked and was unstable. i was in a bind so i ended up bending it in half and that seemed to take the rocking out of it. the hood opens coventionally though but it would be very trick if it opened that way!

I'm assuming this is a joke right? Your not actually insinuating that losing a few pounds up front is going to make any type of serious impact on performance are you? Any difference would be so insignificant that its pointless to even discuss it.

That hood is for looks only.
