DIY Service: Fluids / Filters / WINTER READY

Forum,

During the summer I spend most of my time on my Honda 650 Hawk; and since the winter is coming I use my 2002 TL mainly to take me from the Bay Area to Tahoe (Kirkwood).

Last year I crashed the front end; cracked the bumper, killed the Part #74111-s87-000 (water front guard); the driver side fender guard and the intake under it and the fog lamps.

Since then I have ordered the Comptech Icebox; installed with no problem. Well worth it. The only question I have there is the filter; it is not at all like the K&N that I had on my civic. Does anyone know the part I can order from K&N to fit the Comptech?

At the end of the winter year; the car started having some serous vibration in the steering wheel. This I figured was due to the rotors; I have picked up a pair of Rotora Slotted. The install went well; after having an impact tool; on one side I drilled the screws out. Do I need to replace these? I figured that with the wheel and what have you it didn't matter that much.

Put on new break pads and rotors... Isn't there something I need to do regarding doing a hard break without stopping.. Kind of like heating up the rotors and breaks for better life?

This weekend I am going to be replacing the A/C Filter; tran fluid (using Honda fluid and is there a filter anywhere?), oil (been using Moble1 Synthetic 5-30), radiator fluid (using the Honda brand fluid) and I was thinking of replacing the fluid out of the break lines. Has anyone done this and is an easy job to do with one person; I heard it was a two person job?

The car has 75,000 miles; the book says 105,000 replace the spark plugs. Is it a waste to do this before the 105k mark?

What else would you suggest going over to get the most out of the car this winter. I go up as I said every weekend and there will not be time to dick with the car during the season. Oh yea I have rotated my tires already.

Thank you for the help...

Justin

Service Saturday 11/4 In San Mateo, CA or hella late tonight.

If anyone is interested in learning the ropes with me; I wouldn't mind having another TL owner join me. Could help.

I replaced my tranny fluid not too long ago, there is no filter.
Never replaced brake fluid by myself, but I believe you need someone to step on the brakes while you are letting the old fluid out, so it's a two person job.

Call up K&N with the measurements of the Comptech filter and if they have one in that size, I'm sure they will be able to tell you the part number.

Once the wheels are on there, they hold the rotors in. The screws aren't necessary. In fact, a lot of companies don't even use these screws anymore.

You're supposed to bed them in. From about 70 mph, apply firm and even pressure down to about 10-15 mph. Don't come to a complete stop during the bedding procedure. Do this about 3-4 times and that'll do.

No transmission filter to replace. You won't have to "replace" the brake fluid, but that's up to you. Have someone pump and stand on the pedal while you let the fluid out. It'll take a while to get the old fluid out and the new fluid in.

Can't tell ya. Depends on the conditions, how you drive, etc. Take them out and check.
