Distorted Windshield

I had my windshield replaced by Acura due to a rock chip on my '03 TL-S. I had it replaced with aftermarket glass (XYG brand?) since it was half the price of the original "honda" stamped glass. Long story short, this glass is crap! It's so badly distorted that it gives you headaches in 10 mins of driving!

Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Acura is replacing it again for me, I hope the next one isn't distorted. Beware of aftermarket windshields...

Dirk.

Does your windshield keep making cracking noise whenever going through bumpy roads?
That's what I have after replacing an aftermarket-half-price-very-suck-windshield.

I replaced mine with the OEM for free and never had a problem. There were a thread about windshied replacement some time ago and there were people who were saying that going with OEM is a waste of money (yours or insurance's company). Seems like this example tells a different story.

I had mine replaced with an aftermarket glass manufacturer, PPG. They are really good. It comes with a visually distortion guarentee. Your dealer should've check the windshield for distortion before installation, shame on them.

Saga continues

Just to update you guys.

I had my windshield replaced again, this time with PPG glass in the hopes this glass would be better. I had to pay another $150 for the PPG glass, so now I'm into this for $621. Original "honda" stamped glass would have run me $800 plus tax, so I'm not far off for aftermarket crap.

Anyhow, I got the car back last night, and the job they did was horrifying. Black tar like glue was on my paint on the A Pillar, the window moulding is showing signs of wear due to re & re 3 times, the plastic trim surrounding the window wipers has been cracked, and this ones a beauty: The replacement glass has a black tinting where the rear view mirror should be glued on. This tinting is physically too low on the glass for this car. So how do we fix this problem? We pull at the power wire for the rear view mirror sending a metal clip flying, and mount the mirror far too low! Now I've got this mirror more in my face than it was before, the power cord for the mirror is exposed, along with foam stuff sticking out of my headliner, a metal clip in my cup holder (I guess that was just to piss me off), and here's the kicker: the new glass is also distorted!!!

The only good news is that the distortion is no longer in my line of site, so I'm not going to fight to have it replaced with probably another crap glass.

The car is back with the dealer where the mirror is being properly repositioned (there better not be residue glue from where the mirror was), the window wiper trim being replaced, and the black tar like glue being removed from my paint. I received no apology from the service manager.

This was a mint '03 TL-S w/50k that I've owned since new, and my dealer has butchered it with this workmanship. Although the dealer is agreeing to fix it, I'm still not happy, nor do I think I should be. I'm waiting for the call when my car is ready, and I'll update you on how it went. If more problems arise, it won't be pretty.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Dirk Diggler.
