In Dire Need Of Help!
Hey guys, so my transmission completely failed
. I decided instead of abandoning my car I'd go ahead and stick with it and get it fixed. I need new motor mounts and transmission mounts. I've already decided to go with XLR8 Motor mounts to protect whichever investment I may make. Also should I put the new tranny in before the motor mounts or vice versa? My other question is which transmission should I go with? I want to get one that will last and can handle power. (I'm planning on increasing the performance of the car). I've read a couple threads but I cannot pinpoint which tranny to go after.... Please point me in a direction so that I can make an educated decision. Please excuse me if this wasnt posted in the correct area. I just need help. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

How much more performance gain are ya planning on ?
If ya got deep pockets and plan on keeping the car for the long run, get the stick !
More money and effort initially, but satisfaction is guaranteed for durability, performance and driving pleasure.
If on a budget and looking only for a few more fun years....ya can't go wrong with the '06>'07 Honda V6's AT.
A much easier swap !

06/07 transwap is an easy fix? Meaning all mechanics can do it? Or specific ones/dealership only?
Oh, also new vs used price-difference?
How to tell used is good (rebuilt with warranty? Pull from a totaled vehicle?)?
Where to get used?
Mine's good atm, touch-wood, but never know!

AV6 is a pretty easy Swap
I would search for totaled vehicles but not from the front, Rear Collision or Rear Collision for the Better.
Also low mileage will guarantee you that the last owner did not skip ATF changes.

Hey Isiravi, has your original tranny ever been rebuilt or replaced ? How many miles are on the car ? How does the present tranny shift and perform ? Has the fluid been routinely changed ? For now just do all of the preventative tranny stuff as recommended, and then if still wanting some more peace of mind.....Go to your local auto salvage recycler to buy the best used '06>'07 Honda V6 tranny that you can find. Prices vary, but should be no more than $1000 for everything needed. Then figure another $500 labor for installation.
~NEW~>>>way too much $. Once ya buy it, sit it in the corner of your garage and you'll never have to knock on wood again !!!!

Smooth. So far so good. Haven't noticed anything
Unknown, but currently nice and red (although that doesn't mean anything for its history).
Hey man, just relax and enjoy your new ride ! Sounds like you have no reason to panic.
Sometime that you're bored, check with your local Acura dealer about the recall history for your TL. All you need is the VIN#.....and they will be able to tell you if everything is up to date. If your car was included in the tranny recall, it's possible that either a jet kit was installed where the fill bolt is on top of the tranny......or the tranny may have been replaced. Check underneath for signs of blue paint on the tranny bolt heads.
Look over the forum's "DIY" sticky for lots of helpful tips on common problem areas. Should you decide to do some tranny "PM", it's relatively simple to perform a drain & fill with about 3 quarts of Honda DW1 fluid. Consider replacing the filter also. Clean fluid is the key to helping our tranny's last longer ! Good luck with the TL.

Hey DomIzDope, Is the TL going to be your primary daily driver ? Are you restricted to any dollar budget on the performance mods and what kind of power increase are you looking to gain ?

If you're only going for a small gain in HP and on a tight budget, the newer Honda AT should serve your basic needs for quite awhile, IMO. However....if you're into a bigger project, the CL's 6 speed stick is the best choice for true unharnessed performance pleasure ! So, it all depends upon what you realistically desire from your TL at the end of the day.

Just to ADD... Both Transmissions will Handle any Kind of HP that the J32 can deliver.
The Main reason to use the Manual its for Acceleration Gain and the Weight loss BUT not becouse the Auto trans cannot handle the same amount of HP.
Given that we are compairing the Accord V6 AUTO Trans to the CL-S 6 Speedo, Becouse our Originals will crap themselfs sooner with more Heat/Power.
