Dim headlight on one side
Dim headlight on one side
I seem to have run into a problem... Over the summer, my 99' TL got into a pretty bad frontal collision.
The accident did break one of the headlights. (DRIVER) After the car was repaired, I noticed that one headlight is nice and bright blue/white. (RIGHT) But the other was a yellowish halogen-like color, the bulb that was replaced! (LEFT)
I was thinking of buying and installing 2 new D2R bulbs but was wondering if anyone had another solution to this... I'm not sure if I'm just seeing things, but it looks as if ALL the lights on that side are dimmer than on the other side... My other theory is that there is some uneven power distribution going on between the 2 headlights.
BTW, the collision center has a lifetime warrenty on the repairs made... Should I check w/ them first?

The bulbs will change color a little when they start to go bad
I heard. If the glass part of the bulb was touched by hand the oily residue will cause it to burnout quicker. Sometimes on the earlier models the ignitors can also go bad .. Take it bake to the bodyshop and have them correct it even if they have to replace the bulbs and ignitors or invertors.

Also try switching the bulbs from side to side to see if this corrects the problem.
If that particular SIDE remains dim, then it is not a problem with the bulb, but rather the wiring or igniter/inverotr.
If the dimness changes to the other side (following the bulb) then you know that your bulb is no good.
