Post Difference between TL and Type S engine

I was wondering, where does that extra 45 horsepower come from? I know the camshaft is different, any other parts of engine that's different?

Horsepower gain comes from:

1. Enlarged throttle valve
2. Low-resistence air filter/duct flow
3. Dual stage intake manifold w/integral velocity stacks
4. High-flow intake valves
5. Thin-wall, spin cast cylinder liners
6. Higher compression (10.5 vs 9.8)
7. High-flow mufflers
8. Low-restriction cats
9. Increased exahust pipe diameter
10. Type S badge on trunklid**

**Most horsepower gain

Did I forget anything?

Matt

And perforated seats/steering wheel/door inserts (door inserts are only on the 03s, which is why we're faster than the 02 Type S's)

Seriously though, I think you've got most of it covered

cooler rims too!!!!!! love those type-s 17inch thick 5-spokes.

i hate the TLP rims. looks so small and plastic-y. and the tires are too big and bulky because of the small rim size.

if the tl-p rim(atleast a 99-01) was a 17 it would look alot better than the type-s rim

well yeah.. but i was actually talking about for both 99-01 and 02-03 tlp rims. i have a 99tlp and a 03tlp.. so im stuck with two 16 inch rims. i actually like the pattern on the 99tl, the double spokes are nice, just wished they had an option to get bigger rims or something back then (but theyre take forever to clean). looks like im gonna be spending quite alot since i need to buy two sets of rims..

I hate the 99-01 rims.. that's one of the reasons I went with an '02 TL when buying used.

Is it just me or do the TL-P rims on the 02-03 look too small for the car?

By the way, the TL-S had 35 more HP, not 45.

Wow that sucks. Did you check to see if your car was in an accident?

Are you sure it's a TypeS?

What's the 8th digit in your VIN#? If it's a 6 it's a TypeS.

To correct you. It's 35 horsepower more for the Type S. The TL-P has 225 and the TL-S has 260 stock.

Just above the arm rest on the door panels, the leather is perforated.

PLEASE post pictures of your interior for further investigation.

The intake lobes are the exact same height.
The exhaust lobes are slightly taller.

Try hanging a Playboy bunny air freshener, you will get more power on your launch. I upgrade to playboy bunnies whenever I go to the track
