Diff b/t West Coast TL and East Coast TL
I've been looking at two 03 TL-type-S at dealerships with the same mileage 40k, one orignated from Cali and the other from a New York dealership. I'm in Washington state, some people have told me to stay from East Coast cars because they salt the roads (possible corrosion) and that people drive their cars harder because of all the onramps/turnpikes. The tl from Cali is more expenvise compared to the one from New York.
So whats your opinion
1. Are West coast cars in better condition than East Coast?
2. Should I worry about corrosion? if so where is the most likey spots for corrison and where should i look?
Thanks!

Take a look underneath the East Coast TL. We salt the hell out of the roads out here and even if people wash their cars, many do not go to a car wash with underbody sprayers. Thats five months of a salted underbody. Underbody parts tend to die first out here, five or six years (muffler, etc). My Maxima had to have the whole exhaust replaced (rust) and started rusting from the inside out (even though exterior paint was near flawless). We salt and put rock and grit down for traction. The rock and grit kicks up doing the winter and puts cracks and crap on the underbody. From there you go to Rust Street, USA. Being from the East Coast, I'd pick up the West Coast TL in a heartbeat. That 364 days of rain you get in Washington State will rust that TL out in days if there is any problems on the underside.

ummm........ i guess that sort of makes sense about the corrosion part but i have yet to hear anybody complain about it. it has happened on comptech aftermarket springs and sway bars. if you close to either car, take it to ur mechanic and ask him to check the car out.
plus, if its from a dealership you should have a warrenty against corrosion anyways.

i'd tend to agree with going with a southern car or a west coast car given both cars were maintained well. thats the reason i bought this acura was since i was coming here to NY for a winter, i wasn't bringing the roush up here with the road conditions and winter harshness. now me, i am a clean freak so right after it snows etc i take it for a full wash, undercarriage and all then hand dry and clean all the nooks and crannies.

Also keep in mind the the best grade of gas we can get here in Cali is 91. So if the east coast owner was good, then the east coast TL would have been running on a higher grade of gas. Plus Cali gas has more additives that reduce pollution.

eh, thats all relitive, the cars are made to burn 91 or higher, not gonna effect the engine much, now the quality of the gas like chevron vs. walmart gas, now that may be something to consider. but there is no way you can tell. just make sure its been maintained well, that'd be the biggest issue
