Devastating wreck, TL gone :( pics inside
As the title says, I was involved in a devastating wreck March 9th on my way home from work. Long story short, I was "brake checked" for absolutely no reason in a light rain on a freshly re-paved asphalt highway. Had cruise running at 70mph and in an effort to avoid the car I tried to use the shoulder. The light rain was just enough to bring up the fresh oils in the road but not enough to wash it off, that mixed with the remaining asphalt gravel debris left on the shoulder is where things went bad. The inertia of changing direction and going to the shoulder combined with the oil and gravel sent my car off the road into a very shallow angled ditch. After sliding about 70 feet down the ditch around 60mph (still traveling forward), I hit a 5ft 45 degree culvert head on. Witnesses said my car went about 30 feet into the air, and traveled over 100 feet before touching ground again; marks in the ground confirm this. The angle/speed of hitting the culvert cause my car to cartwheel rear over front multiple times, hitting on the rear twice and front once (twice including the initial culvert impact), before finally falling onto the roof and staying upside down. Total distance from culvert impact to the car stopping on its roof is about 350ft. Only the side airbags in the seats deployed; I had been needing to replace my front impact SRS module which controls the forward airbags, so they could not deploy. All I had was my seat belt. I crawled out the drivers window and was in and out of consciousness a lot between waiting on an ambulance and then med-flight after the ambulance deemed it was needed. Had emergency surgery to remove my spleen which was shredded up. Had lost half my blood by the time I got to surgery and needed a few transfusions. Surprisingly no broken bones....well a few cracked ribs...
There are no arrests or anything like that involved, just trying to find a new car and get my life back on track. I only had liability insurance, so I won't be getting a check for my car. There's really not much to be salvaged. I've removed/cleaned the CL-S 6speed gauges, E-brake, and 6-speed console/cup holders. All of that is fine. Also the JDM UA5 Honda Airbag is perfectly fine, though the black leather/wood steering wheel has some scratches from my windshield collapsing on it. The OEM front lip was destroyed, the drivers side-skirt is perfectly fine, the passengers is fine minus a bend near the front wheel - should be able to be shaped back. The rear WW lip is ok minus a small 2inch area missing right at the bottom corner of the drivers side rear wheel. Removed the rear OEM Gunmetal "H" and "SABER" emblems, along with both Honda of America eagles from the C-pillars.
I'm currently looking at TSX's and G35's. I'm really leaning toward the 6MT TSX. I guess I won't be finishing my J35 Type-S 6speed project after all. Parts for that build be probably be on the black market soon, including freshly rebuild Type-S heads and a factory-new J35 short block.
Here are the pics, this makes me very sad. Don't get me wrong though, she saved my life.

eh, just slap some touch up paint, you should be good.
in all seriousness. i'm glad your ok. i know you have to be shaken up and not very happy. with my 6mt swap on the way, i get nervous about this happening myself.

Yeah, I spent a week in the hospital and was in ICU for a while. I'm very thankful to have made it out how I did, but I'm not very happy about my car at all...very sad
I was working on the 6MT 3.5-S yes. I have a shed full of parts now I can't use, including an engine. I'll probably tear the CL-6 tranny apart and just sell the LSD out of it, that or someone will need to buy a new clutch case for it.

Holy shit, it's amazing that you're still alive. Sorry about the car, but you're a lucky man. Reactions in split-seconds like that usually warrant that you avert danger.... the best thing would have been to just hit them instead of going into the shoulder. But even then I can't say that I would have done that in a split second out of nowhere.

Wow, glad you're alive, that looks deadly. Good luck with the new car and as everyone else already said, hope you have a speedy recovery, accidents like this leave a pretty bad mark in your life, I still get paranoid at times, I'm sure you know what I mean.

I ask this in all seriousness.
As a rule, when tailgated on the freeway, I slowly decelerate about 5-10 mph. If they don't back off, I speed up & get as many car lengths as reasonably possible between us. If they come back, I brake down 15-20mph not quickly but more than the first time.
If they come back again, I brake check.
