Depreciation

I have been toying with the idea of getting a 04TL....I dont think i would leave the acura domain...like it too much.

So i started to work out finances and see how things work out and there lied the shocker regarding my 00 TL

KBB says that it is now worth 11-13k depending on good vs excellent rating. That sucks...true that i have 65k on the car, but i thought it would be worth more than that...15-16k range. Just think about it, that is 16k+ depreciation in less than 4 years. Is this rate normal ?

Does anyone know of a good website to compare car depreciation ? I thought Acuras like most (entry level) luxury cars held their values pretty good.

KBB is notoriously lousy for figures.

Try Edmunds.com, nadaguide. com, or cars.com.

Any of these are far more informative than KBB and much more accurate.

That figure is a bit low......

Also,

Dealers love to show you KBB because it gives them a chance to show you "how little" the car is worth and then try to steal it from you.......

The update is on both edmunds and nadaguide the car value is between 14k and 17k...now thats more like it. Hopefully that convinces the dealer as well.

I got hit on the head when I turned in my 2003 TL-S, bought it less than a year ago (Memorial Day 2003) for $31,500 and traded it in o 2/20/04 for $22,500. They gave me over blue book for it but damn! do them TLs depreciate!

Reply...

From what I have seen hear in Canada... Acura currently has a full page ad in the local paper advertising the 2003 TL for $34K... $4K off the regular price...

I bought a 2002 TL Type S... 18 months ago for $42K... it's worth right now about $32K on trade in. The dealer salesreps have discouraged me from buying a 2004 because they have NO ROOM to give me a decent trade-in value.......

Guys....., the transmission issues and the strong competition out there has dropped the resale on TL's. Now in my case, if I sold my car today, I would lose $10K in 18 months... that $555.00 per month in depreciation alone.

You can tell that I am very disapointed with my purchase...

I know the feeling. I am seriously looking at leasing my next car. 3/4 yrs is about how long it takes for the next "wow" car to come out....might as well change everytime.
