Decision Time :ohnoes:

Hello. This is my first post (although I have been reading tons on this site already) and to welcome myself I'm gonna ask a question every damn person has asked once already.. lol.. seriously though. This is a big decision and I wanted everyone's personal opinons about my decision rather then reading all your opions on other peoples purchase.

Sorry but here it goes. You all know it already.

So we're looking at buying an 03 TL-S. Asking price is $14,000 from an individual seller. Mileage is at around 75K and it's on its second tranny which was just replaced about 6 months ago and it also now has the oil cooler.

I dont really want to ask you guys should I buy it. I want to ask you guys, "If you guys were in my shoes would you buy it?"

75K, on its second tranny, $14K. nothing else is wrong with the car. Here's some pics of the Car.

I know about the transmission problems that exists and he already received the letter from Acura and I'm also aware it's also that it's warrantied up to 100K.

The real reason is the lip piece which makes this car sexy as hell.

Basically. If you were in my shoes, Would you buy it?

And also say if we did buy it and drve it until say 100K and decided to trade it in or sell it to a dealer. How much do you think we'd be offered back on it?

Any help is greatly appreciated as we're looking to buy this weekend.

THANKS..

For an 03 Type S? Thats not bad at all I would say kelly blue book it. www.kbb.com overall though it looks nice before you buy it of course take it to a machanic and see what they have to say and make sure the rotors arent warped.

miles seem pretty damn high for 3 years old. 25k each year is a bit. Average used to be 12k.. what is it now 15k or 20k?

Seems like that is the only downside though. Really nice looking car and a good year. I would do like Trackrunner suggested and KBB it. You could also run a report for a type S that is a couple years older with 100k miles and see how much it is going for and that could give you a decent idea of what it may be going for when your car hits that point.

Edit:

Sorry, i didn't answer your question. I probably wouldn't buy it because of the miles. Seems like you could find one with way less miles for not TOO much more (16 or 17k?). Don't take my words too strongly though, i haven't really shopped around much. But, if im going to invest that much money, i would rather do it into something that is more of a sure deal and not so iffy with the miles. just my !

How attached are u to your car? I'm pretty attached to mine so I would buy it no matter what. I've read they are saying they have found a fix and have a 'new' tranny to place in, so you shouldn't have to worry.

The only con like cyde said is the mileage. little steep.

It would be 25 per year if it was placed in service in 2003, but that car may have been put in service early in 2002, which would change the mileage picture considerably. Check the VIN through CarFax and get a few more details. It's tough to answer your question just based on the facts, but if I were checking out this car, the miles wouldn't bother me at all.

Try and negotiate the price, and before you know it you will be up to 100 thousand miles. Youll be cranking them on, especially when you first get it. The car looks like its in immaculate shape from the pics.

I would bet money the car was bought in early 02 because he said the tranny was changed and if thats true then its covered under the warranty which means its an early 03. Might not be bought in 02 but at least early 03. If thats the case that is 18750 per year which isnt a ton but its a little over the average. I also agree the miles wouldnt bother me either because everyone knows hondas last forever.

thats a good deal in my book, the body kit is a bonus, 14k sounds pretty damn reasonable to me.

It's already 4 model years old, now that you mention it, so your math is correct. My mechanic told me anything around 75,000 miles was still in good shape, and I bought mine with 95 with no sweat! The tranny recall had been completed in August 05, so I have no complaints.

I'll probably just kbb it at higher milage and see what comes up.

Now.. TL-S or 02 Maxima.. Hmmm... haha...

anyone know about dealer trade in value??

if you pick 02 maxima over 02 TL i'll And I think the trans problem is given too much credit, the TL will outrun your desire for a new car

Yeah man.. haha.. I think the maxima's ar actually pretty nice.. IMO.. haha.. But the only thing is, This car would mainly be for the S/O and if anything were ever to happen to us(as in breaking up) this would be her car. And she knnows nothing about cars.. lol..

And this car's been in the market for quote some time now. I can only imagin if we were to resell it or a dealer trade in value?

We're havin second thoughts though. and they're positive thoughts.. lol...

I believe the Type-S badge will make it retain value much better I paid quite a bit more then what I expected for my '03 with 47k (close to $18k). I could've gotten a much better deal for the non S but the red badge sold me over. And I'm cheap as hell so And btw if this will help at all, my gf loves the car and it's amenities.

Question

Not a bad deal $14K, if no other choice I would buy it, otherwise I would just invest on a '04-'06.

I was waiting for someone to say that.. and honestly.. That's what I'm thinken too. all the new ones are just rebuilt anyways right..

And I just spoke to one of my friends that works at Acura. He told me basucally if these TL's dont come off the lot with the oil cooler for the tranny then the tranny is pretty much done for the rest of its time. But only if say you were to get a brand spankin new tranny.. haha.. but I couldnt agree more though..

I'd buy it if I was in your shoes. Get him to lower the price, 12k would be cherry for me.

Alright.. Sad to say.. I think the Maxima has one. Simply because of the fact I dont want to keep up with the car maintance wise. I also have a civic..lol.. which I'm spending a lot of money on and with the maxima I can spend more money on my car.. lol.. bash me if you will.

We'll see though. Lookin at the Maxima tomorrow..
