Dealership NOT taking responsibilty!
Dealership NOT taking responsibilty!
I brought my car in for the tranny light and alos the tranny was slipping, so the dealer replaces the Solenoid and test drove it. I drove it home still same problem. I drove it back and later that week they replaced the transmission. Now I notice the car is leaking oil from the crank case rear seal where the tranny meets the engine and they state its not there problem the part costs $10 but with labor 900. I am bringing it back Tues to tell them they are going to fix it on Acuras expense since my father purchased 5 Acuras from them and the car came in without any leaks but left with a leak. If they noticed a leak prior they should have notified me which they did not inform me and I am going to contact there zone manager to see what can be done. I will keep you posted.
That is a touchy situation. Being a current 18 year employee of Honda I can tell you your between a rock and a hard place. I had my tranny replaced 2 months ago and had them replace to rear seal while the trans was out as a precaution. It is possible that the tech knicked the seal while installing or removing the trans, but it will be almost impossible to prove unless the trans is out of the car. If your car absolutly did not leak before the repair then take it up calmly with the service manager. If you walk in yelling and screaming - your screwed. Talk with him in a professional manner. If you still do not get any satisfaction then ask to speak with the district service manager (every dealership has a rep). I wouls also place a calm phone call to Acura Customer Relations. You are more likely to get positive results by talking calmly about the entire situtation. If your family has purchased 5 Acuras I would make sure everybody (including the owner) knew that as well. I see problems all the time and the people who do not walk in screaming like a maniac get the best results. Good Luck
I would place the Call to Acura first and let senior managers know whats up
No biz likes a customer going online and expressing their dissatisfaction

Now, lets address your prob.
Is there even a single drop of oil under your car (except where someone let it drip from oil change) If its clean as can be and no leaks from the past show- then your car was in fact damaged during service.
Things happen!
The Service Manager needs to know AND the General Manager of the Dealer.
For all you know they let the oil change kid install your trans and he knicked the oil seal.
Or a pro could have had any number of install probs.
IT should have been noticed with the trans out, just like they spot bad motor mounts then.
That is part of the techs job to look things inside over while trans is out
I ran a private shop and if a customer came back with this exact problem I would be taking the trans out and having a word with the tech.
Remember- Managers- not Service Advisor/Writer is your contact
When Acura Corp gets a call from you, it gets forward to Managers Blackberry on their hip. They know right away if you have a problem AND Acura expects them to resolve it

Well if they didnt actually replace the trans or remove it to do so and only replaced a solenoid they had nothing to do with the rear main seal getting damaged. It is a known issue (while some what rare) on the TL. You may be out of luck on this one

Its still unlikely that they damaged the rear seal installing the trans. As any one who knows how the honda trans mates up to the motor would agree. Nothing slides thru any thing into a seal. The trans bolts to the flexplate(seen in this pic).
The seal in question is burried behind this

Bummer- we were all hoping for an obvious f-up on this one
Looks like back to the idea of speaking DIRECT with the General Manager and Service Manager about some help
Since your family has 5 vehicles from them- the General Manager will care more about you than Service Dept does
Good Luck

Acura is replacing it free of charge as a good will gesture. I spoke to the service manager and everything went smoothly. He claimed after the transmission was replaced our techs should have double checked to make sure there were no leaks from there work but also stated that they didn't touch that part since it is behind the flywheel but it left the shop with a leak so they messed up.
You should also write a letter to the owner or GM of that dealership explaining how you were taken care of. The service manager only seems to be pointed out when things go bad. I would also buy a few sheet pizzas for the service dept. Trust me it will go miles in the long run. You will never be forgotten and you will be treated great every time you bring your car in for service. Small gestures like that go a long way and do not cost very much. I did that and you would not belive how much cheaper my services have become, how much nicer my loaners have gotten and how much has been goodwilled.
