Post Deal time

Test drove Tl-S on a Saturday. Told the salesperson that I was interested but understood that they were not budging off MSRP. He said that yes they were getting MSRP for Type S but they would knock off $600 on the TL. Told him I was patient and give me a call when they were willing to budge. Went home and emailed another local dealer and told them I was in the market etc. They responded they were getting MSRP for the Type S also. I let them know I was going to be patient and keep me in mind. The first salesman called back Tuesday to see if I had any questions. I thanked him for his time and told him to call when they were more flexible. Also told him I had opened negotiations with a second dealer--first come first served. He assured me it would be September before the Type S went for below MSRP. Told him to call me in October. That Friday he called and said the GM was willing to gp $800 below MSRP on Type S with nav. I said I was looking to get closer to invoice and to keep me in mind. On Monday he called back and said they were now willing to go $1100 below MSRP. They also beat my credit union by .25% on the loan. Tuesday I drove home a new TL S with nav, Satin Silver. It turned out they flat bedded it in from an out of state dealer. Wonderful car. As far as a tune to christen it there is only one--Start It Up. As Mick sings the Type S will give you a "smooth ride in a mean mean machine. Start it up."

Surprised me. When they made that offer I thought I wouldn't push further. Maybe i should have. I also thought the earliest I would hear would be the end of the month. I will never understand that business.

I guess what I don't understand is how they can sell for below invoice and make money on the deal!

Great deal! The majority of us ending up paying MSRP. BTW, what city and state did you purchase your TL-S from?

1. Holdback is pure profit if they move the car as soon as it comes off the truck.

2. Can make money on the trade-in

3. The dealer gets kickbacks on the financing

4. Factory incentives for sales volume.

I agree, however, that they are not going to sell a TLS below invoice. He must have meant MSRP.

Question

Confused, but I'm pretty sure Willie said 1100 under MSRP. This isn't the same as 1100 under invoice, is it?

Sorry for the confusion. Guess I was dreaming. It was $1100 off MSRP not invoice. $32600 plus ttl and processing fee of $189. Any way, I live in Virginia and had to drive down the Shenandoah Valley on Thursday and returned today. Great break in. On the way back decided to get off the interstate and went over the mountains. The sport shift was fun to use. No squeaks and the wind noise was not beyond what I would have expected. Even though I knew where I was going, I used the nav and found it to be accurate. Have to get use to all of the features. My advice is to be patient. It is hard to judge the real demand. Let a couple of dealers know you are interested and see if one will bite.
