Unhappy Dead Nav System

Have 2500 miles on my 02 Type S and this morning when it started, the Nav screen was just blank. It was on (I could see it power on), but nothing was on the screen including no A/C controls, nadda. I took it in this morning and David McDavid said this was the first they had seen with this! I had a 00 TL with Nav and never had any sort of reboot problems at all. Any other owners encounter this issue??

That happened to me once at around 300 on the odo. I started the car and nothing happened on the screen. But thankfully, it went back to normal when i restarted the car and hasn't happened since.

I did have another problem which is the connectors in the back of the nav console in the trunk kept getting loose making the screen jiggle and fade. I was able to fix it every time tho, popping up the trunk and reaching behind the nav console to push in the cables.

I have a TL 99 bought in 12/98 and that has happened to me maybe 15 times since purchase w/40k miles. Dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong. It always happens from engine start, although I think it went out once when I was driving. Reset the electronics while in Drive mode (turn car key again) has always restarted the nav. hard drive for me. It hasn't happened in the last few months though. :p

Question

Was there any sign prior to that or it just happened when you start the car?

Dead Nav System (fixed)?

It just happened this morning when I started my car. I even tried turning the car off and letting it sit for 30 seconds and restarting.

The service guy saw it when I brought it in, but of course when the technican got to it that afternoon, it work perfectly! They even said they called Honda and had never had that issue come up before.

Their resolution: "If it happens again, bring it in and keep the engine running so we can hook it up to our computer"

I will just knock on my imitation black wood that this will not occur again. But they at least fixed my rattle that occurred above the nav unit by the A/C vent so that was the biggest annoyance of them all!
