Dead Battery = Rough idle now

Two days ago my car battery went dead. Two years and 59600 miles later I think is not too bad for our batteries. Anyway, it took maybe 15 to 20 minutes for the whole process to change the battery etc. I know in the past when I replaced my air filter (K&N) in order to put the cover back on, I ended up disconnecting the battery to get that back clip on due to the K&N being a litter bigger. With the understanding that after a few minutes our computers reset, I notice a little bit of idle problems then, but it went away after 30 or so minutes of driving. This time, two days later and over 100 miles, the problem still there and it only occurs when I'm coming to a stop and the car almost stalls. After a second or two it stabilize and it idles fine. I called the dealer and he told me that maybe my throttle/intake needed to be clean. I told him there was no problem before the battery change. I have an appoitment this Saturday. Anybody experience this problem before? Any help or suggestions will help. Thanks!

that is really odd. i'm sorry i can't offer you a solution as i haven't had it happen to me. have you checked the search page yet? i could swear i've seen similiar posts. it is possible you may need to clean the TB and intake manifold, but it would certainly be odd since you didn't have this problem before the battery changeout. do you have a vaccum leak somewhere in the intake piping perhaps? since the K&N is bigger maybe it really doesn't fit. you may want to take a look.

My Accord did this after a battery replacement, but it stopped after a little while.

Good news and thanks to fsttyms1 suggestion , last night after coming from work and already mad about this near stalling situation, I disconnected the batery again for 15 min. and after reconnecting, all is back to normal. Idle is good again. Thanks again for the advice.

In case it happens again (and it likely will), park the car and let it idle for about 15 minutes.

The reason for this is that part of the ECU software is adaptive. When the battery is disconnected, the ECU needs to "relearn" the idle, and this is the way to do it. It's actually in the Service Manual.

When I had my tranny replaced some time ago, I had the same problem, and it wouldn't go away. Doing what I just suggested took care of it permanently. This is documented, and I have no idea why my dealer didn't do it!

In the future you need to do the idle relearn procedure to prevent this problem.
