Is dat true???
Is dat true???
My friend just got a 2002 VW Jetta 2.8L VR6............
It seems to me dat it's spending a little bit too much gaz for a car it's size........I asked him , if there's anything wrong.... He just told me, when u get a new car, it spends a little more gaz than when u have about 3000 KM on it....Is dat true?????17

Correct. And the reason is when a car is new, all the parts are supposed to be within spec for tolerances. However, due to manufacturing variances some internal engine parts may line up a little closer together than they should. As the engine breaks in, these parts will wear against each other (mind you this is ever so slight--not like running a car with no oil). The wearing causes friction, friction causes drag and drag saps HP which in turn consumes more gas. Once the engine is fully broken in, the parts have worn clear of each other and the engine actually turns freer and therefore will use less gas. Even up to 40,000 miles, gas mileage usually improves by 1-3 MPG
This is the same reason why you should take it easy on the engine for at least the first 500 miles or so. Let the parts get to know each other, buy each other a drink, whisper sweet nothings to each other before you make them do the lambada at 8,000RPM....
