Question Dangers of performance mods

I read a review on the TL-S and among other new things, the car has quite a few beefed-up parts in the drivetrain. Essentially, they strengthened the transmission and torque converter to handle the added power of the better engine.

So I'm wondering if all you guys with I/H/E and stuff will be able to get warranty work done on the drivetrain if you experience problems, especially since Acura has gone and spent more money on the drivetrain of the Type-S so that it will hold up under extra power.

Well if you ever have mechanical problems like that, just unbolt your mods, put in the factory parts and drive to the dealer.....And Act Dumb!

Always works!

Ya I might do that with my springs when my shocks go out.

I'm wondering if changing the backpressure with a cat and exhaust will have negative effects on the engine...?

I have the same concerns after reading about the beefed up tranny to support the extra power. I'm still going with the upgrades though. I'll deal with any issues if they come up. I don't think there will be a problem. There are a lot of people on the board with upgrades and I've yet to hear of Acura saying that they weren't going to cover the repair because of Comptech upgrade.

My parts will be here today! WOOHOO!!

You wusses are freakin trippin. Youre saying they made other Honda products such as Integras, Civics stronger than our 99-01 TL's? Please, how many stock civic and integras do u see? I have friends with turbos on these lil cars and theyve been holdin up just fine for years. So unless u think these cars were built stronger than our TLs, you have nothing to worry about with just bolt-ons.

i'm guessing that the drivetrain can handle more than 225 horses...i'm also thinking the beefed up tranny is for better shifting and also allows people to mod the Type-S and not have any troubles later on...

Some thoughts on this topic:
1) Auto engineers work with accountants to assess longevity, warranty cost projections, etc. They design in added capability (they leave something on the shelf) for parts like the drivetrain
2) Ditto for warranty coverage. They have to allow for the worst usage, highest temperatures, and worst service intervals to ensure the tranny doesn't fail within warranty excessively
3) Engine variability will always allow some engines to produce more power than the design target - they allow for that
4) There have not been reports in this Forum of excessive transmission failures in spite of hard usage, lots of leasers, etc.

I say Dont Worry, Be Happy! And let's get it on!!!!!
