Angry Damn Cops!!!

Went to the grocery store last night, and on the way back this cop got right on my a$$. I recognized the headlights, but to make sure, I changed lanes, and sure enough, he got right back on my a$$. We then pull up to a stoplight and he gets in the lane on my right and stops in my blindspot so he can observe me w/o being observed himself. So I glance over at him knowing I didn't do anything wrong and start shaking my head. When the light turns green, I hustle off, not racing style, but fast, however never coming close to breaking the 45mph speed limit. I didn't want to give him a legal reason to pull me over. If he still pulled me over, my a$$ would be filing a complaint this morning. Then that fool zooms by me at well over 60 and turns onto the highway.

And the story doesn't end there. Two lights down, I make a left turn and what do you know, an unmarked black cruiser gets on my a$$ and does the same thing, following me until I turn off onto another road.

This is no coincidence where a cop just happens to be driving on the same road, they were both ON MY A$$, serious tailgating going on!

What's up with that stuff? Do any of you young TLer's get hassled like this? I just got my windows tinted last Friday, so I'm thinking that prior to getting them tinted, I was just another guy in a nice car, but now with the windows tinted...oh no...he's a criminal or drug dealer or something...better keep an eye on him.

Sorry to ramble, but I just needed to vent! I've had many run-in's with law enforcement and have been harrassed where I had done absolutely nothing wrong. So I was just expecting the same thing to happen again last night. Although I have a very short temper now and won't take crap from anyone, even a cop.
Good thing nothing happened!

Well good thing nothing happened. Next time don't burst off the line on a green light. Say you went from 0-45 as fast as you can but still kept your car unders speed limit...you can get pulled over for wreckless driving. Don't ask why, but it is what it is. Let's face it, if cops want to hassle us they can do it and get away with it. Complain or not, it's no use.

I truly feel that most cops are out to do good, but you come across these instances that make you wonder.

Anyways, as stupid as it is, the tinted windows probably lent a helping hand in their actions. Main reason I will probably not get my windows done

I can't stand the POlice either. Granted most are good people out to do good things, but I'm sure some of them are on a big power trip harrassing as many people as they can. I've had a few run ins myself and some of them are just plain a$$es. Sometimes I think it's racial, but most times I think it's cause they really have some power trip problem. Someone needs to police the police!!
Oh and yes you can get pulled over even if you don't speed. I got pulled over a few months ago for chirpping my tires. I totally didn't even mean to. Our cars feel heavy from the very start and when I hit the accelerator, it doesn't move until I hit a certain point on the pedal. Then the car punches forward and causes the wheels to chirp. That's why at stops I usually let off the brakes wait for the car to naturally roll, and then accelerate. He let me off with a warning after he checked my record out. I understand why he did it, but still annoying as crap.

Most of my family is cops. My father is in the law field, my uncles are cops in Yonkers and in NY. The first month i got my car, i had tints and the body kit on it. I must have gotten pulled over about 15 times. Never for speeding, never for wreckless driving, never for any violation, just for being a 20 year old in a nice car. about 8 out of the 15 times i knew the cop and we would start talking about the family or my car. But they told me the truth. They couldnt see in, and the car was new in the area + it's nice. They want to make sure the owner isnt driving around looking for "trouble." It's like this, 8 out 10 times they are doing their jobs, those other 2 tmes they are probably messing with you or just breaking balls. It's annoying to be followed and pulled over for no reason, but if you have nothing to hide you will be ok. Also whenever there are cops around, and they are following you. At least roll your front 2 windows down. And when they pull you over, roll all your windows down. Lettingg them see inside makes them feel like they have control over the situation and will soften them up to tickets.

Good thing I got 35% all around, and not the 20% that I was originally intending to go with! Who knows how many cops that would have attracted! Probably would have gotten my butt pulled over.

I'm right there with you JPritch. I think it has to do with being a young male driving around a car that is about their (cops) annual salary. True, most are doing their job, but we (young drivers in nice cars) are targets. I got my first ticket in my TL and was basically "singled out" from a group of cars in Durham, NC. I'm getting off of the ticket thanks to the lawyer, but I don't need this extra aggrevation or hassle. The cop even told me smuggly that I can just send "my lawyer" to court since I live in Va Beach. What kind of crap is that?!?! Just because I drive a nice car, I automatically have my own lawyer? That's just human nature. I'm sure I would be mad as hell seeing someone so young driving around such a nice car while I was killing myself to make ends meet...I'd probably give him a ticket too, if I was in that situation. You can't win...

People tail gate me all the time... But when a cop does it, I guess he's a a$$ hole. I think "anyone" who tails gates is an a$$ hole cop or not.

Also, the fact you sped away (exhibition of speed) and had tinted windows (illegal as hell) and he still didn't pull you over, sounds like you had a good day.

If you elect not to take crap from a cop, thats your business. I found out early on, treat them with respect, they pretty do thier business and move on. Mess with them, and you'll spend way more time in their company, then you want too. Put yourself, in his shoes, maybe he feels he took crap from you when you "zoomed" away and had you windows tinted?

I think in both cases, it's matter of respect, for the cop and for you.

Wreckless driving is a mistaminer, which means you could go to criminal court, not traffic court.

"May I have permission to search your vehicle?"

"No"

"If you have nothing to hide then you would let me search your car."

I don't friggin care if I have nothing to hide or a pound of cocaine under the seat, if I was driving and minding my own business, I should not be the subject of what I consider to be an illegal traffic stop. I think the police have way too much power. People want too much coddling from the gov't and it's destroying what we used to stand for as a country.

They always try to use that trick.

It's bull****.

Always say "I do not consent to this search" and even if they find something, they can't use it in court.

You never have to tell a cop anything.

All that you are required to show, by law, is your license and registration.

I love to play games with law enforcement.

1. Looks cool
2. Keeps out the heat from the sun, making the car cooler on the inside
3. Nice to have some privacy

Not Messing Around

Actually, no I'm not messing or trying to mess with you. Thats really how it works.

After 9-11, I have a new respect for Fire and Police officers, I realize that Cops aren't popular, and some have bad attitudes, but I wouldn't want to do that jod.

I'm glad they're available, in case some idiot breaks into my house and trys to harm me or my family. I'll let those renegades them take care of the crooks.

But, yes in answer to the question I think your asking, you go to criminal court for some traffic violations, such as Exhibition of Speed, and Wreckless Driving.

Thumbs down cops

Tell me about it...

A coupe of years ago, I had a beef with a cop in my town. I live in the Oranges and used to "hang" in a diner every night minding my own business at the counter reading etc...

I was waiting every night for my girlfriend to get off work (usually after 2 a.m.) She didn't drive and I was there to drive her home.

Well... little did I know he had "a thing" or crush on my girl and would f#ck with me every night. Always WITHOUT her in the car.

- Tailgating me
- pulling me over
- pulling my friend over (while I was in the car)
- searching his car

ALL THE WHILE NEVER EVER giving me a ticket... I finally asked him I he had a problem with me. He said no.

The last straw was when I was at the supermarket taking my mom and he was on duty. When he saw me, he gave me one of those death stares to the point where my mom was like "What the hell was that about?"

I decided that something needed to be done and I wanted to have the last laugh. I work at a major newspaper in my state (NJ) and gave my buddy reporter a call and told him about what has been going on (over the past six months or so).

He said "Let me take care of it..."

I got a call from the chief of police later that day and ever since then, the mother-#$%&er hasn't said "boo" to me. Nothing.

But it was scary. AND IT WAS WAY BEFORE my TL. At the time I was driving a Cougar 5-speed turbo as well as a T-Bird

Actually, wreckless driving varies from state to state, and can either be a criminal violation or a traffic violation, depending on how the officer viewed the situation. I have never gone to criminal court for the wreckless driving charges that I received, only traffic court. Some examples of wreckless driving in VA that are TRAFFIC and NOT criminal violations are:

Changing lanes without using a turn signal
Spinning your tires
20 mph over the posted speed limit

There are plenty more, but you get the idea.

Alright, school's in session for those who didn't get Tdoh's joke.

Lesson 1:
The correct way to spell "driving like a crazy man" is: Reckless.
One way to spell "I've never damaged my car" is: Wreckless.

"Reckless" is a word; "Wreckless" is not.

Lesson 2:
The correct way to spell "Your crime is less than a felony" is: Misdemeanor.
A humorous way to spell it is: Mistaminer

So kids, the moral of the story is: Reckless driving is bad... and it's usually a misdemeanor.
However, wreckless driving is good! And if you are ever near a coal mine you may meet a mistaminer!

Class dismissed!

V.

(Dang, SoundSpeed beat me to the explanation!)

Thank you! Someone who understands humor when he sees it! I didn't want to embarass them by clarifying it to them even though they still didn't get what I was trying to get across but heck, you saved me the trouble anyways...

And no, I'm not trying to be a spelling teacher or anything like that, just that I found it funny that three different people misspelled "reckless" in this thread, apparently not realizing the irony of spelling it the way they did...
