dammit
Just hit 100k on my 02 TL
Driving in auto only until i get a chance to go trade in for an 04 or 05
Well lo behold my damn SRS light goes on last night.
WTF
Of course this happens 400 miles out of the warranty period.
sheesh
btw i have had battery issues so maybe that's it I hope?

Battery issues will cause the SRS light to come on. If the SRS system detects "low voltage" and doesn't think it has enough power to discharge the airbags in a collision it will turn the light on. Same thing happened to me and it turned out that I just needed a new battery. Once the battery was replaced I had no more SRS light problems.

my wife's 96 TL is at 233 K.
she used to have a 2.5 hr commute ONE WAY for 2 years from Westchester to Albany
i wouldn't say that I beat the TL up though.
it's really good to me.

the tranny wont cause the srs light to come on. more than likely its either a sensor or low voltage that triped it. there was a recall on the front seat belt buckle that would sometimes cause it to trip the srs. with the srs light on NONE of your airbags work. so keep that in mind

The SRS light may be from a defective seatbelt connector or switch- since seatbelts are under warranty for the life of the car, go to Acura and have it checked- it will likely not cost you anything to fix. My car had the same problem and it was a seatbelt switch (on the passenger side).

just got new battery installed, light still on
so i'll have it checked out this weekend.
thanks.
btw i know that the tranny wouldn't cause srs
my comment about the tranny was merely about
the fact that i'm being cautious now that it isn't
under warranty and of course, something else
goes wrong.

outcome
took it to my mechanic
the codes indicated the passenger side
sensor (forgot which one). apparently
the system said this can be triggered by
most electrostatic inferences (cell phone, laptop computer<--it actually said laptop!)
I'm looking at the screen in shock and said
"you mean to tell me that if i had my laptop
in the passenger seat that it could have triggered
this signal or my cell phone?"
he said yep.
anyway once it was reinitialized the SRS light went off
meaning that the connector was not bad and didn't need
to be replaced. I paid $50 and was outta there.
