Dam Curb...

just got a 03 TL-p 8 months ago everything was going fine until yesterday.....

So i was driving in a very busy parking lot, i wasn't paying much attention to the road because i was trying to unjam the dam CD player....plus i was driving really slow. Then all of a sudden my passenger side front wheel hit a curb maybe 10 inches high. I got scared so i stopped the car with the wheel still on top of the curb, shifted to park and got out of the car to check every thing out. everything was fine. So i got back in the car and when i shifted from park to reverse it felt like the whole car shook violently felt rough. So i drove to the nearest empty spot to check out the wheel everything was fine. I even drove on the highway after for about 40km and everything seemed normal. So my question is what caused the violent shake?

uneven load... causing more stress on the tranny to shift into gear.. kinna like when you park on an incline and put it in reverse...it slams a little rough into gear

if the problem doesnt persist i wouldnt be too worried about it.

just keep an eye on it.. or if somebody else here thinks otherwize.. take a look into their advice.

have the front end inspected at an alignment shop
Possible damage to steering arm or other parts from curb shot
Possible cv joint damage, possible control arm....
Dont keep driving it without getting it checked

always pull/engage parking brake before shifting into park, good for transmission.

dont get too too scared... hes one of the Techs here on the site.. and in TRUE Dealership form, he always gives the worst case scenarios.. although possible.. dont take it as "your stuffs all messed up go pay the dealer 2k and have it all fixed NOW" lol

he tends to tell you every possible angle of every single thing that could be wrong so you dont overlook anything. but hey, you asked for it...

have it looked at by a shop..i doubt it even threw your alignment off.. im thinking thats worst case here...

Hey -someone has to play devils advocate!

cant tell someone who curbshot the tire that everything is ok until the car has been looked at by a pro,,,I did say alignment shop for the inspection as its suspension steering related items

Im not a dealer tech!
but I will tell you everything that I personally would check on my car in the same situation
If you slid off a curb and onto the street, thats one thing-
if you hit it sliding sideways , thats when damage is more likely as the axle takes an impact inwards and the cv joints get bound as a result--metal bends

Other threads here on the subject of damage after curb shot is full of the same parts I listed--
So its a good idea to look at the car after any contact with object,,that thing on the road you hit may be stuck in the grill....or taken out the oil pan

If you drive into a 10" curb thats a pretty serious impact on the steering and suspension. Better safe than sorry, I'd hate to say "oh its probably ok" then have my ball-joint snap at 60mph or something similar. I've seen it happen from something a lot less traumatic.

If you have an alignment shop take a look at it, just go ahead and have your alignment done as well so you don't waste all the money. I don't see how your alignment COULD be in spec after something like that.

100% agree with 01tl4tl. Thats 2 techs giving you the same advice. Its your car, do whatever you think its better. Personally I'd listen to people with experience and training in said subject matter Nothing against rockstar - he's irght in that there have been so many "OH MY GOD! MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AT 50MPH!!!!! I think my engine is going to fail catastrophically and burn me to death in a fireball of doom!" threads where it's nothing serious (OBVIOUSLY). In this case however, it could be potentially dangerous.

Welcome to the forums btw Oh yeah, the woman in the S4...WAY out of your league

Shift to N, parking brake, let parking brake stop the car if on a hill, then P. Then u don't get that nasty clunk sound when u shift into D again cuz the tranny isn't the one stopping the car from rollin down the hill...

if you understood how the park ~gear~ works inside the transmission,
you would fully set the park brake with car in gear, those are mini drum brakes inside the hub of the rear rotor- notice how wide that hub is? thats why, but the brake shoes are very small
THEN put in park as acura says to in the owner book

That engages a pawl- a jaw type device that locks into a gearset.. locking the trans in place.
its not a seperate gear that you are protecting

Read owner book for parking on hills info, which direction to turn the wheels when, and brake-trans use.

02,
you better hope the trans holds the car stopped on a hill-!!! those mini brake shoes certainly wont!
`Curb` the edge of a front wheel gently, so no pressure is being exerted on the tire and suspension but ready to stop the car if park ~gear~ fails!
the park brakes are a backup system on auto trans cars,

with the m/t car, and you park on a hill in Nuetral---
go visit it later at the bottem of the hill
