DAD Intake
Hey all,
I just ordered an CAI intake called Dynamic Auto Design... aparently its almost the same as the AEM cai, but it was $70. I had some extra money, and I always wanted an intake on my car, so I figured it was a good buy. Anyone ever heard of this before? Right now I'm going through that guilty feeling of ordering something, so I'm a little skeptical, and I was hoping I could get some answers from you guys. The other night I was with my cop friend (thank god we were in his county) and this idiot in a V6 camry tried to race me on the freeway. Needless to say I blew him away finally doing 145mph. On a previous thread we were discussing how long it took to get to a top speed, and I said it was pretty quick, but after this i realized it wasn't! Will CAI help out this? LOL - and FYI, I dont plan on doing 145 on a regular basis, I just wanted to know if the CAI helps out on lower speeds or higher speeds, and if this is a good brand that I bought. You can view the intake at this web site so check it out, and let me know! Sorry for the long post!
Thanx,
Ryan

The bypass valve protects against what... water? Where do I install that, and do I need to install it before I actually install the whole air intake system???? I'm not much for installing things on cars, and I've never really done anything to my car by myself before, so how hard is it to do the CAI intake??? Should I attempt to do it by myself?!?!?

OK, here's an update. I went outside to the TL today, and messed around with the air filter box, and I took it off, and it looks pretty damned complicated. I really need some help with this install guys... LOL knowing me I'll try to take out the air box and end up taking out the transmission! I really need some replys to this. The FAQ wasn't quite as detailed as I'd like it to be.

Ok, its been almost 2 years...
I remember gettin to my stock airbox was not easy... Its not too complicated. You simply have to locate your throttle body and work your way down... It should take no longer than 15 minutes.
You simply locate the screws that hold the box in place and take them out one by one. Some will be very hard to reach. Theres two major parts : Air box , Resonator. You must remove both so that there is an empty space for your intake to replace....

Yeah, its under that airbox. Its a b*tch getting that thing out. I suggest you have a long and skinny tool to reach some of the screws. I forgot what the tool was called... Most mechanics use it.

yea thanx guys.... I also got an email from the company today telling me the AEM bypass will work with this intake, so I'm excited!!! I also searched the web last night and came up with this pretty good site that details every step of the CAI install with pictures. Heres that link So if anyone else needs to know, thats how ya do it I think. It was installed on a CL, but I cant see how much different that is. Also, I've got a 99, so I searched this board a while and found something about my airbox having a small radiator with a flap?!?!?! I did notice something like that when I checked my filter yesterday. Thats an extra step I'll have to take I suppose. If anyone else has anything to say, I'd appreciate it, and I'll let you guys know how my install goes... which I'm planning for later this week!

It's pretty straight foward once you get under the hood and look at what has to be done. I used the DIY on this site I believe, took me about 30-40 minutes.

60$ for an intake? Is it a true CAI (filter reaching the bumper) or just SR (filter inside the engine bay? If it's CAI that's a good deal. I can't justify myself paying AEM that much for a metal tube

Yea, its a true intake, down to the bumper, and the AEM bypass valve works on it too.... I'm kinda excited, I've been tracking it on UPS all day, and I'll get it shortly. I'll install it tomorrow, so if anyone has any last words of wisdom before my first EVER modification on my TL (or any car) I'd really appreciate it! I'll let you guys know how it turns out!

Phewwww - I just finished up the install about 15 minutes ago. I test drove it, and it sounds like a friggen race car.... like a deep growling noise around VTEC range... rediculous! Then it kinda whistles and hisses... kinda neat. But remind me never to do that again - my fingers are so sore, my arms hurt, and I'm all paranoid that something is going to fall apart. It seems like a pretty good deal, but that air filter to the pipe connection was a *****! Looks, sounds, and feels good. Although I havn't floored the car yet - I'm still afraid its going to fall apart!
