D5 Light Blinking!-Transmission Problems? Please Hlp!

Hi, This month I bough a 2000 TL-P with Navi, I never had such a beautiful car, it drives like a dream and looks stunning. But for the past couple of days after I drive for about 40min+ my D5 light on the dashboard starts blinking...et the tranny is working fine, also since i got the car when i start it the maintance required light on the dash blinks for about 5-10sec then goes away... The car functions excellent and switches gears very smooth. The car fax report states that the cars tranny was recalled in 04. If anyone has a suggestion of what this might be please help... Thanks Alot,

ps. Acurazine is the best forum i ever joined never seen soo many helpful threads before.

the recall in 04 was most likely the oil jet being installed.........go to acuras main website and check out the owners link..........type your vin in and all the info you need should be right there in detail.

Stop by Autozone and have them pull the codes.

It could be the sensor, because the blinking only starts after driving the car for a while....i also get a jolt..when slowing down and comming to an intersection..like someone is downshifting hard. I dono...i better check it out...went to work today and no blinking lights...so i am really not sure.

How many miles do you have on your TL? There's a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty on your transmission. If you're close to 100,000 miles you might want to bring it in to an Acura dealer to document the problem.

Well I have 70 000k miles on it but i bought i as a salvage(small tree fell on the roof) from U.S and brought it to Canada, well a local dealer did that for me, it was fine when i test drove it and it passed all the safety and structural testing before i bought it, the tranny was shifting well and no warning lights were on.except the maintainace required light at start up for a few seconds. So i am really not sure what i can do and if Canada's honda dealers would even want to serve me, since its an U.S car.....but it rocks.

Hmm - salvage title would void all warranties. Definitely go get the codes checked out.

Well don't worry about the maintenance required light. That's just an automatic reminder that comes on to remind you to change the oil and filter. It flashes initially and then it will illuminate continuously. You can reset it if you want.

As mentioned above, the salvage title would likely void the extended transmission warranty. There was a recent discussion about this. Search for "salvage" in this forum.

Good luck!

I just bought my TL-S in April. After about a month, the D5 would start blinking like you said, after 40 minutes of driving or so. Brought it to the dealership and had them check it out. Turned out to be the Tranny Oil Temperature Sensor was faulty. Had them change it out for a new one and haven't had any issues with the tranny since. The wife even took the car on a road trip to BC and all is still well.

So I went to work last 2 days (25min Drive each way)..and the D5 light didnt start flashing...but i am completely paranoid now..every little jolt i feel i think something might happen....Is it regular for the D5 to flash and then stop flashing after u let the car cool, before a tranny failure?

Thanks

id just replace the sensor and wait to replace the tranny, unless they are going to pay for it. I had the sensor go and my tranny didnt fail shortly after (but it did fail as they do/did before the updates)

That's a little steep. With labour, I paid just about $200 CDN.
