d2r / d2s or d4r / d4s.
Which would you prefer? Any ideas where to get these new d4r and d4s? I read somewhere, that slight modification it will fit our headlight housing.

I did say with slight modifications.

"The NEW D4S XENON and D4R XENON bulbs can be used slightly modifying the base to replace existing D2S (Philips 85122, Osram 66040 for example) and D2R (Philips 85126, Osram 66050 for example) HID bulbs as they have the same base construction P32-d2 respective P32-d3."

D2R = Reflector HID housing
D2S = Projector HID housing
The D2R's are designed for reflector use, because of the beam pattern produce by the reflector housing. A metal strip on the bulb prevents light from being scattered from the reflection of the housing. If you look closely at your headlamp, you will notice that the light emmits from one half of the reflector housing, hence creating the light "cut off" in order not to blind un coming traffic.
The D2S bulb is designed to be use with projector type housing like in the BMW's and newer model application including the new RL. No metal strip is found on these bulbs, because the beam pattern is controled via the projector and the
inner shiled within, which controls the sharp "cut off" and color flickering we see with most european model projector housings.
The only diffrence as for as fitment is the location of the "notch" on the base of the bulb, all you have to do is creat a new notch on the opposite side in order to fit the D2S to D2R and so on.
I'm not familiar with the other bulb type.

I'm looking to put in the d2s, cause my blackout headlights are not as bright as before.
I'm just wondering with the new d4r/d4s or d2r/d2s, which one people would prefer.
According to the website above, they state the new bulbs are brighter and emits more lumens.

Then you should look in to the new D4R bulbs... and stick to a 4~5kelvin rating... anything above that as you might already know, diminish the usable light output..

Hey mikelee when you figure out what type of modifications you need in order to fit those new bulbs, mind if you let us know too?

It will not work on our tl's with modification of base of bulbs. It's not that simple.
I have D4R and D4S bulbs and tried them on my 02 tl-s.
Guess what happens. they turn off after appx. 70 sec. because they are supposed to be used on different generation of ballasts not our matsushita(i think that is what we have, right?) ballasts.
I loved the color though. The color was not that cheap purple/blue color, but it had slight purple tint as well as strong lighting output.
I tried to make them work on my tl, but a new set of ballasts are probably needed.

No, they won't work on our tl's.
I tried many different ways to figure this out how I could make them work on my tl, but I ended up putting new d2r bulbs back in.

only way I found was by using Hella Gen3 ballast instead of our factory hid ballast.
But, I didn't want to do so, because it would be too much work and I figured that it wouldn't be worth it to do so.
