cylinders 1 & 5 misfire, spark plugs related?

hey guys!

my check engine light had been going on and off randomly for the last month or so, but yesterday night it came on and wont go off.

i checked the code(s) and i got 71 & 75. cylinder 1 and 5 misfire..

does that mean my spark plugs are no good?

or is it something else??

thanks!

Does your temp gauge ocassionally go up and down??? this is an easy way to know if your head gasket are leaking. If they are they could couse missfired.

Then again a lot of things could cause missfires. It could also be your coils and or spark plugs.

Try changing your sparkplugs first.....aftermarket like NGK iridium. I got them pretty cheap on ebay.

check timing and also the camshaft, although I doubt the camshaft will cause only two to misfire... check sparks plugs and also check you distribution rotor and make sure all connection are secure.... I had my connection loose on my civic and that caused me to misfire because the signal to ignite was sent delayed.... Good Luck and keep us informed...

Some TL owner have had bad luck with Bosch plugs misfiring. Try changing them with NGK Iridium plugs or the ones that Acura Dealers use.

Is really hard to say what would cause the missfire, like I said it could be so many things.

The ECU codes won't tell you much other than missfires, been there it sucks.

Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression (leak), or any other cause.

This might help more than the dealer.

http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ic/ic109856.htm

From the article:

"Loss of compression means the cylinder loses most of its air/fuel mixture before it can be ignited. The most likely causes here are a leaky (burned) exhaust valve or a blown head gasket. If two adjacent cylinders are misfiring, it's likely the head gasket between them has failed. Also, if an engine is overheating or losing coolant, it's likely the head gasket is the culprit. "

Plugs aren't that bad compared to doing a head gasket.

Coil packs usually last a long time, so it's probably your plugs or the gasket. How many miles on the car?

i had the same prob! dealer told me it was the spark plugs and wanted to charge me $30/cdn a plug for NGK platnum. I went ahead with Bosch +4's and it's only happened twice since the change. I really doubt our engines like these +4's cuz i've had bad idling at stops which immediatly fixes itself. the real downside is my engine's died on me every so often cuz of the low idling!

MIGHT WANNA CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT THE BOSCH's, i'm also going iridium!

i would say its more than likely the plugs or the coils. but most likely the plugs. get rid of the bosch and pun in a set of iridiums (ngk, or denso)

on a side note, my dealer charged me like 25$ to fix my sunroof squeak.. it took like 15mins... and like always, they just put some silicon tape around the seal.. what a rip off..

I had the same problem with the Bosch Plat+4 plugs so I replaced them with NGK Iridium ones and its been fine ever since. Also Bosch has an unconditional full cost replacement warranty, download the pdf instructions and certificate from the web site, and you need your receipt. I submitted a claim several weeks back and awaiting a check. I got the NGK's off ebay for cheap$ so its break even and the Bosch plugs are history. It's my opinion and I've seen this posted several times that Bosch Plat+4 and Acura TL do not mix.
