Custom Courtesy Light Mod

What's up guys? I did this a few weeks ago but didn't get around to posting it until now. I havn't seen it on this forum and thought it was a pretty good/original idea. I just ordered blue LEDs to replace the red, so I'll post those pics when they arrive. Let me know what you think.

What I think would look even better would be the same concept only do the A (Acura logo) instead of T/L

No Film

No film. I had TL die-cut decals made at a local Kinko's and placed them on the lights. Then I applied about 8 coats of Matte Black spray paint, waited for them to dry, and then removed the decals. Trust me, 8 coats is about the minimum so that no light shows through that area. If anyone wants to do this mod, you can get the 3.2 TL graphic here (http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/sear...tion=1&text=tl) and if you want to do the Acura logo instead, you can get that here (http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/sear...brand_id=82081). Note: graphics may need resizing. Good Luck!

How-To: Custom Courtesy Lights

Ok, since some of you are confused about how this is done, I figured I'd try to explain it better. I am including a link below that is an Adobe Illustrator File. If you don't know what that is, it doesn't matter. I have sized 3.2, TL, The "A" Acura Logo, and the "ACURA" logo in a file to fit onto the courtesy light cover, so you will have a few options to use. Burn the file as a data CD-R and take it to your local Kinko's Sign Department. Tell them you want decals made from the file. The color of vinyl really doesn't matter since it is only going to be used as a paint mask, but if you want to use the remaining decals for something else, choose a color. You will have to drop it off and it may take a day or two to get back. When you have the finished decals, remove your courtesy light covers and apply your selected design. there will be room for either (3.2), (TL), (A), or (ACURA). rub the decal to assure adhesion to the transparent layer on top of it, and then peel it away from the backing. Apply the decal to the light cover and remove the transparent sheet. You are now ready to paint. I used matte black paint but you can use any color/finish you want. Apply atleast 8 coats to each light cover, allowing adequate drying time in between coats. When you have applied your 8th coat of paint, wait about 2 hours and remove the decals from the light cover. You now have the finished product. Replace light covers to driver and passenger doors and enjoy your latest Mod.

Windows users, Right click the link and "Save Target As..."
Mac users, CONTROL Click the link and "Save Linked File As..."

On an off-topic note, I am also in the process of making custom door sills since I find $75-100 to be far to expensive for a flimsy piece of metal.

Anyone who does this mod, post some pics, I'm anxious to see the different variations.

Light Output

Naturally, because you are blocking out a good portion of the cover, you lose some light output, but it is still pretty bright. I just ordered LEDs instead of those replacement colored bulbs I have in there now, so I assume they will be much brighter.

RelentlessOne: Can you make a decal with the (TL) smaller with a dash and bigger (S) for us to down load and take to Kinko's. This is such a nice origional idea and easy to do. I was figuring that if (ACURA) could fit, then (TL-S) could as well. Thanks again for the origionality.

Type S Bee

Here you go. I created a TL-S with all the same size letters, and a TL-S with a larger S, both scaled to fit the light cover. Hope this is what you were looking for. If anyone wants another variation, though I think we've covered them all, it wouldn't be a problem to do it for you.

Yeah, you didn't see anything because that link is meant to be right clicked and downloaded, then opened in Illustrator (or burned on a CD to give to Kinko's). Read the previous posts, it is a decal file requested by a fellow member.

Relentless one thanks for the extra effort and helping me with my request. That (TL-S) in red is going to look good against my ebony interior. Big ups, we owe this originality all to you!!!
