Just punch in your CA destination in the NAV and go at it. When you get tired, pull up motels and sort by distance to travel and there you have it. Same with gas stations and restaurants. I've been tempted to do an x-country trip just to see if I could do it with only the NAV.
Now if you don't have the NAV then [slap] [slap] [slap]

take a plane...
j/k...i don't know the major routes...have you gotten a travel plan from AAA? they can map out your entire trip.
i'd say enjoy the trip and take lotsa pictures, avoid driving tired, make sure somebody knows where you are on any given day, pack your drugs in cans of coffee and have emergency cash on hand...

Damn you're lucky!
I've always wanted to drive across the country. I will but later on. But probably not in my TL because that is close to 3000 miles one way (6000+ miles round-trip). Are you sure you want to take your TL? I really hope your TL is not leased.
Like daverman said, have Acura's TLC plan your trip out for you. The main advice I have to tell you is to NOT drive if you're tired. Since you're driving X-country, time is not an issue so take your time and nap on the side of the road if you have to (power nap: 15-30 minutes). It really works.
If you have the navi then you should have no problem. Actually, as soon as you find Route 80 West, then just stay on there all the way across America. But the navi will help you with everything else (food, gas, lodgings, etc.).
Good luck, have a safe trip, and let us know how it goes.

I took a trip to delaware and then michigan. Total trip with local driving was 2500 miles. I would recommend putting a little more air in your tires so you can get better mileage. I also noticed the car did not slow down that much at high speeds. Also, PUT ON A BRA!!!! We went to Boston befroe and when driving at 80+ miles an hour, a little rock does some major damage to your paint. On our trip to michigan, I put our bra on and taped up the bottom lip so I wouldnt get any nicks in it (it was only a week old) After we came back, I noticed that I did not get a single nick or chip in my paint.
BTW, don't drive behind trucks
Hope this helps,
Roshan

I drove down once from Vancouver to San Francisco (1,000 miles)
I did a non stop thing (except for gas, food, and p)...something I wouldn't suggest.
Yeah, I would also say that a bra is a must!
oh, and do everything you can to enjoy the trip.

Tools, like a decent set of metric socket wrenches. Never know when you might need them.
I took a 3000+ mile trip to Key West once and had a couple of interesting things happen to the car. I was real glad I brought my toolbox with me.

That trip sounds awsome (green with envy) If you have a laptop, bring that for local guides yellow pages, zagats online, and you can also tell us on the board how your trip is coming along and where you are.
Oh yeah, a good radar detector, bug/tar remover if you don't get a bra like someone else suggested (that's a darn good idea), a couple of quarts of oil.
Remember, it's not the destination, it's the drive there!

I did that once! CT to CA.
I was in the Navy and was transferred to Lemoore, CA.
All I can say is take I-70!! It is a beautiful ride through Colorado and Utah. I have always wanted to go back and do that drive again. The only bad part is the section through the midwest is BORING.
I would suggest the following route:
I-84 to I-81 to I-80 to I-71 to I-70 to I-15 to I-40.
I don't know what the NAVI will tell you, but I can guaranty that you will LOVE I-70 once you get past Denver...
Keep us posted.

Some practical advice from an old dog...
go to an outdoor store and get:
>Flashlight
>Emergency Space Blanket (good in case you have to lie on the crawl under the car)
>Emergency Strobe beacon (about $10, the size of a small flashlight)
>First Aid kit
>Powerbars and/or beef jerky
>A cooler that plugs into the cigarette lighter is also good to have
>You probably have a cel phone already. A portable 2 way radio is a plus. Talkabouts are great if you're traveling with someone
>Lots of music or books on cd/tape, unless you like to listen to religious programming when driving through the bible belt
>Discman or MP3 player (for when you stop @ the Motel6 )
>A good pair or driving glasses or even better, Polarized sunglasses
Have a great time!

More advice
Lots of good suggestions, but here are few more from someone who did a 3,500 mile trip this spring (Boston - Memphis - Birmingham - Montgomery - Atlanta - DC - Boston), and just got back from 2 weeks of shuttling between Boston, Rochester, and Cleveland:
Bring lots of music you love, and bring a variety.
Stop every 2 hours, just to stretch your legs. You'll last a lot longer overall if you rest before your tired.
I'm jealous, too! This is the kind of trip the TL was made for: high-speed criusing over long distances!
