Crash!

I haven't been around much on the site, but always try to keep up to date on what is new and what is good or bad.

Anyway, I've been a proud owner of a 2002 TL-S for over 2 years now, but saturday I got into a fairly horrific accident. I am happy that I chose the car that I did considering that damage done to the car and the damage done to me. I tore a ligament in my left shoulder, and have a slight rip in my ACL in my right knee, all in all, I think I got out fairly well unscathed. The car that hit me was a 16 year old kid that ran a red light in a 2003 Explorer. From what the guy that was behind him said was that he never hit his brakes, and he was doing somewhere around 50-60mph.

Here are some photos:

Site that is hosting the pictures is a bit slow right now, so might have to give it some time.

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZus pics after pics and i still dont get how with that damage anyone can survive an accident like this, so you say you got hit at 50-60, from what it looks like you could have gotten hit walking across the street at 20-30mph and sustained the same bodily damage....(death) well good to see you well, damn newbie drivers....

I can't believe you got away with a torn ligament and ripped ACL. Looks much worse but I'm glad you're ok.

:wow:

I know you probably don't feel too lucky, but damn... you ARE lucky to have sustained so few injuries compared to your car.

Best wishes.

WOW!!!!!!

Glad you are ok enough to be on this board after an accident like that, and an ACl, and tonr ligament seem pretty minor looking at the pics. Hope you make a speedy recovery back up to 100%.

yes im aware that he just got into an accident, this is the reason im asking for his rims

im curious to kno what happened to the 16 y.o. explorer driver? did he get hurt at all?

im still shocked at the pics, im trying to imagine how it happened but its hard because it doesnt look like just running a red light can cause all that damage...:wow:

It just simply amazes me how the left front tire is still there, when everything around it is completely crushed in. How the hell did that happen?? It's not like the suspension is designed to bounce back out.

Just curious.

Good lord that looks bad...

Glad to see your OK dude

Funny, i have yet to hear of anyone seriously injured in our car. Once again glad i baught what i did. We all hope we never have to see first hand how our cars hold up in accidents like this, unfortunatly, sometimes it happens

Again glad ur OK. The TL is a total loss. Just e-mail the insurance guy these pics, he probably wont even waste his time getting up from his desk to delcare total loss.

Hopefully you still had good equity in her. Hope to see you in another TL-S soon.

Well, to clarify a few questions that some people have asked...

The kid that hit me was okay, he was in the trauma room next to where I was, he was sitting up and walking around about an hour after we got there.

As for the insurance, my company has already totalled the car and paid off my entire loan. Now it's just time to buy a new car.

As for any parts off of the car, I've already checked and considering that the insurance company totalled the car, there isn't anything that I can take off of the car itself. I might just snatch the Type-S logo for myself if I can though.

I didn't pay a whole lot for the car, I picked it up two years ago with about 2k miles on it for a little under 31k. I am friends with the dealer out here, so he worked me quite a deal on it. So all in all, I didn't get screwed on it at all.

As for my next car though, I think I'm going to step into a new M3, I had a 96 M3 before this car, but it just wasn't the brightest car to be driving in Colorado in the winter, plus too many dings from the winters.

Thanks for posting my pics on the site, my DSL service that my webserver is on is quite screwed up atm.

As for the Front wheel, I am still totally boggled by it. After looking at the car over and over, there are a lot of scrapes on the wheel itself, but there is only a slight bend in it. Right over the front wheel is where the impact was too. The truck wasn't high enough to really go over it either. That's going to bother me for a while

Thank for the support guys, I'm hoping to make a full recovery in the next few weeks, and I am *very* glad that I got in this type of accident in a car as well made as the Acura. I've sent the pictures out to them already, along with an email and i've already gotten a response back from them. Most other cars I would probabably been in 10 times worse shape.

But all in all, I wouldn't recommend trying this yourself!

-Joe

Few people know this but it's still your car until you get a check and transfer ownership. It's perfectly legal to remove the wheels, battery or anything else you want. Won't change what you get paid. At least it didn't for me years ago when this happened.

Thank God you have these limited injuries. I hope your recovery is quick. I am amazed to look at those pics and see how well the drivers compartment held up. If you look closely the airbag did deploy (pic3) corect? After showing the pics to my husband before I read him your story he guessed much worse injuries. He was amazed when I told him. You are very lucky. Heal quickly and take care.
